The Art and Science of Teaching Phonics
This 1-hour session, part of our Art and Science series of sessions, explores the research support for explicitly teaching phonics, how to create your own or select a published scope and sequence, and practical classroom applications. This session is part 5 of our series reviewing topics relating to re-balancing our early literacy instruction. Sessions will be informed by current research in the field and key texts, such as Shifting the Balance: 6 Ways to Bring the Science of Reading into the Balanced Literacy Classroom by Jan Burkins and Kari Yates (2021). Zoom link will be sent prior to the session.

Monique Burr Foundation Certified Facilitator REFRESHER Training
This half-day refresher course is only for previously trained Facilitators who will be implementing the MBF Child Safety Matters (grades k-5) and/or Teen Safety Matters (grades 6-9; 9-12) curriculum during the 2023-2024 school year. This 3-hour course will cover special topics to enhance knowledge and delivery to students, update changes to the MBF programming and answer instructional questions from staff to improve implementation and skill building.
