CLMS Family Update
September 6, 2024
From CLMS Principal, Mr. Eric Pettit
Good Afternoon CLMS Families!
We are excited to share that the first four days of school at CLMS have been a fantastic success! Our students have returned with great energy and enthusiasm, and we’re proud of the positive atmosphere that has filled our classrooms. From new faces getting acclimated to our routines to returning students diving back into their learning, the start of this school year has set the tone for what promises to be an excellent year of growth and achievement.
Our extra-curricular activities are already in full swing, and we’re thrilled to see so many students participating in Football, Cheer, Volleyball, and Cross Country. These programs not only promote physical health but also encourage teamwork, leadership, and school spirit. Whether they’re competing on the field, cheering from the sidelines, or running the courses, our student-athletes are showing incredible dedication and determination. We look forward to watching their continued growth throughout the season.
As we move forward, we want to remind our families that open communication is key to a successful school year. If you have any questions, concerns, or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our staff. We are here to support you and ensure that every student has a positive and productive experience at CLMS as we look to lead ALL students to college, career, and civic readiness!
As always, Go Pirates!

CLMS Classroom Highlight- Welcome to the New CLMS Staff!
Absent Students
Daily attendance is essential for long-term academic success, as consistent participation greatly impacts learning. However, if your child must miss school, please be sure to contact the office to inform us of the absence. When a student is absent and we do not hear from the family, the absence is marked as "Unexcused," which may lead to truancy concerns. Please call the office, (419) 864-3691, option 4 (please leave a voicemail if it is after hours or we are unable to pick up the phone when you call), or email CLMS Secretary Mrs. Billie Martin, b.martin@cllsd.org, to inform us of your student's absence.
2024/25 District Calendar
Red and Black Fridays!
All CLMS students, staff, families, and community members are encouraged to show off their Pirate Pride by wearing Red or Black every Friday through out the year. Families, please email me (e.pettit@cllsd.org) any pictures of you in your Pirate gear on Fridays and it may be featured in our weekly video announcements or our family newsletters!
Fall Photos
Photos from Lifetouch were distributed on Wednesday. Students who had their pictures taken during Open House but did not order photos can still order them online. Picture retakes, as well as photos for students who did not have theirs taken during Open House, will be on October 11.
Vision and Hearing Screening Update
Vision and hearing screenings will begin soon for students in fifth and seventh grade as required by state law. Please make sure your student has their glasses/contacts at school each day, if prescribed.
Why is it important to have your child’s vision and hearing screened?
Young children with vision problems do not know the way that they see the world is not the way they should be seeing it. Without early detection and treatment, children’s vision problems can lead to permanent vision loss and learning difficulties.
Hearing is important for speech, language development, reading and learning. A hearing screening can detect if your student needs further hearing testing. Even if your student has passed a hearing screening previously, their hearing can change. Hearing problems can be related to medical problems. Hearing loss is invisible, and your student may appear to not be paying attention.
How will the results be shared?
If your child does not pass the vision screening, the school nurse will send a letter to share the results and may make a recommendation for further evaluation by an eye care specialist. If your child does not pass the hearing screening, a rescreen and/or referral will be made.
If your child passed the vision and/or hearing screening, you may not be contacted. You are welcome to contact the school nurse to learn the screening findings.
Vision and hearing screenings are not a substitute for a complete hearing evaluation or comprehensive eye exam.
If you have any questions about the school vision or hearing screening program, please contact our school nurse, Bridget Lower, at b.lower@cllsd.org or 419-864-3691 ext 4014.

School Lunch Information
CLLS is pleased to announce that the district will be implementing a new option available to schools participating in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs called the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) for the 2024-2025 school year. This is great news for all CLLS students and parents. All students are now eligible to receive a free healthy breakfast and free healthy lunch at school every day with no charge to your household for the entire school year. You will not need to submit a fee or complete an application. No further action is required. Once again, this is great news and we are excited to roll this out!
