Dear AOC Parents,

We are celebrating our teachers and staff this week at AOC. It is Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week, and we want to take a moment to recognize the incredible work and dedication of our teachers and staff. Day in and day out, they go above and beyond to support, guide, and care for our students, helping them grow not only academically, but also emotionally and socially. Their impact on our children’s lives is truly immeasurable.

Greetings, AOC families:

As of last week, all students have received their 25/26 AOC schedule, and their COC forms have been submitted for fall class enrollment. On May 20th, all students will register for COC classes. Incoming 9th and 10th grade students are registered by AOC/COC, while current 10th and 11th grade students will register themselves in approved COC courses. Every grade level follows a slightly different COC enrollment process, so as registration day approaches, you will receive more details.

All students:

• Meetings are available for all students via calendly and walk-in hour during lunch
• Students needing to make-up an AOC D/F grade will begin receiving invitations this week for district summer school
• Other summer opportunities:
• COC's Pathway to Law School Program will be hosting the Second Annual Summer Mock Trial
• COC's Pathway to Law School pipeline program and the communications department will work one-on-one with students in explaining the levels of law, modern challenges with the constitution and how to conduct themselves in a Mock Trial with a judge and live jury. During the days of instruction, students will be guided, and advised on how to think under pressure, strengthen their public speaking skills, and improve their argumentative writing.

• Application Due: May 15, 2025
• Mandatory Orientation: Monday, May 19th 6-8pm (University Center, RM 107)
• Fee: $199, scholarships available for eligible students

• Impact Internships: Summer 2025 STEM Immersion Programs

• This Summer the non-profit, Impact Internships, is running 9 Saturday afternoon Zoom STEM immersion programs.
• Program Dates: June 7-August 2nd; times vary
• Application Due: May 18, 2025
• Fee: $895 or free if student qualifies for Free/Reduced Lunch based on CDE guidelines

12th Grade:

• Now that students have committed to a college, please continue checking your emails to meet deadlines for housing, residency, loan counseling, and other important requirements.
• Please make sure to update Naviance with the college you will be attending
• For those on college waitlists: some colleges have started sending out waitlist decisions, so check your portals and emails at least weekly.
• The COC Grad Fair is this week, May 6th. If you are earning an AA Degree, more information is available here

Viva Las Vegas was a night to remember! Our senior dance was full of glitz, glam, and non-stop fun. From dazzling outfits to unforgettable memories—thank you to everyone who made it a jackpot of a night! Way to go ASB and Mr. Frame! So much fun!

All families and community members are invited to AOC's Open House, called Showcase. Our students will display and explain their student projects and work that they completed this school year. Incoming freshman student are also invited to a special ASB activity held in the University Center. We hope that you can join us! It's a community-wide event. Our jazz ensemble will perform at 5:30pm to open the event.

For the rest of the school year, students and parents are invited to share any good news that they are proud of with the rest of the AOC community. Please share the good news with me, jfine@hartdistrict.org and I will share it with the entire community. Let's celebrate our students' accomplishments together.

Located on the campus of College of the Canyons, AOC is proud to be the middle college high school in the William S. Hart Union High School District serving students 9th-12th grades in the Santa Clarita Valley. Students have the opportunity to earn between 24 and 44 transferable college units, prior to receiving their high school diplomas. Upon graduation, the majority of Academy students pursue their post high school education by continuing at COC and completing their college transfer requirements in only one year after high school. Other AOC students go directly into a four-year university, bringing their community college units with them and placing themselves well into their freshman and sophomore years at the college level. While attending AOC as a high school student, community college tuition is waived for established California residents.
