Student Placement Form
2025-2026 School Year...May 1st is coming soon!
It is the time of year when the District 158 Elementary Schools begin to gather and organize information for classroom placements for the next school year. The following is the language in the student handbook that addresses student placement in District 158.
STUDENT PLACEMENT:
“Student placement is a function of building administration. Teachers work together with administration to place students in classrooms. Parents may provide written comments or information pertaining to their child’s learning needs by May 1st."
Please do not submit specific teacher names. We ask that learning characteristics of the child be the main focus of your request. Teachers do move grade levels, buildings, and districts so the characteristics are much more helpful. The final placement is at the discretion of building administration.
Eastern European Heritage Celebration
This April, we are proud to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Eastern Europe, a region whose traditions, stories, and people have deeply enriched our community and nation.
From the vibrant embroidery of folk costumes, to the intricate art of Ukrainian pysanky (Easter egg decorating), to the beloved foods like Polish pierogies and Hungarian goulash, Eastern Europe offers a wealth of cultural treasures that we’re excited to explore together.
Did you know?
The United States is home to over 9 million Polish Americans, making it one of the largest European ancestry groups in the country. In fact, Chicago has the second-largest Polish population in the world after Warsaw!
The first Polish immigrants arrived in Jamestown in 1608, just one year after the English settlers.
Polish Americans have made major contributions to American life including Revolutionary War heroes Tadeusz Kościuszko and Casimir Pulaski.
Hollywood is filled with many Polish-born men and women who have helped shape the industry and make a significant impact, such as Harry and Jack Warner of Warner Bros.
Ukrainians began immigrating to the U.S. in significant numbers in the late 1800s. Today, the U.S. is home to over 1 million Ukrainian Americans, with large communities in Illinois, Pennsylvania, New York, and more!
The popular holiday song Carol of the Bells was originally written in Ukrainian! It started as a folk song called Shchedryk, which was about a bird bringing good luck for the new year. A Ukrainian composer named Mykola Leontovych wrote the music over 100 years ago. Later, the song got new English words and became the cheerful Christmas carol we know today.
Ukrainian Americans have contributed to science, art, and public service. Some famous figures include NASA astronaut Heidemarie Stefanyshyn-Piper and artist Andy Warhol, who was of Ukrainian descent.
The Ukrainian National Museum is located right in Chicago, showcasing Ukrainian culture, history, and the immigrant experience. Check it out!
We invite you and your family to join us in honoring this cultural legacy by attending our Eastern European Heritage Celebration, a joyful evening filled with music, food, hands-on activities, and community.
