Reminders
If you have not already completed the forms on Final Forms please do so ASAP. Also, please check with your children to make sure they have completed the forms as well. Click on Final Forms to login. There is a July 30th email from Final Forms (mailman@finalforms.com) regarding your account activation.
Safety: Drills and Emergencies
This is a gentle reminder that to help maintain building safety and security, students are expected to show ID whenever they enter the building. If your child does not have their ID when entering the building they will be asked to sign in with the greeter when entering.
If your child leaves for lunch, or any other reason, they will have to show ID or sign in every time they reenter the building.
School Happenings
2024 Sam and Martin Bloch Voices for Truth and Humanity Contest for rising high school seniors!
Emilia Viders was awarded as the winner for her outstanding Essay on the embodiment of both a meaningful understanding of the lessons of the Holocaust for society today and a passionate explanation of why those lessons are essential to combating the ignorance that leads to hate and intolerance. Congratulations Emilia!
FALL DRAMA "THE DINING ROOM" NOVEMBER 14-16
The John Jay Theater Workshop will perform A. R. Gurney's drama "The Dining Room" on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, Nov. 14th through 16th, at 7:00 PM in the high school auditorium. There will also be a matinee on Saturday at 1:00 PM. Tickets are $5, available at the door.
"The Dining Room" consists of eighteen unrelated scenes, all set in different well-appointed dining rooms in New England, between the 1930s and today. Fifteen actors will play more than fifty roles, portraying an array of characters all connected in some way to a fine New England dining room. This moving, often funny play has been produced all over America since it's premiere in 1981.
JJHS FALL ART SHOW OPENS THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 14, 2024 at 6PM
Drivers Education
The registration form is on the Stepinac, H.S. website under "Community" > Driver's Education>
The program will be explained at the orientation for the students/parents. The orientation days are listed on the online registration form, and registrants will choose their own orientation day.
Counseling Center
ATTENTION PARENTS/GUARDIANS OF 9TH GRADE STUDENTS:
The Counseling Center is scheduling Freshmen Transition meetings during school hours beginning November 18th through the end of December. This meeting, with your child’s counselor, will be to discuss your child’s transition to high school, the high school schedule, graduation requirements, college admissions testing, and what lies ahead in high school.
A few things to note:
· Students are invited to attend this meeting so please ask your child which period (time) is best to avoid missing an academic class.
· Appointments are one period in length and coincide with our nine-period day. The last appointment being 2:08pm (9th period).
· This meeting can take place in person or via Webex. When scheduling your meeting please let us know which you prefer.

ATTENTION SENIORS:
Please remember that all transcript requests need to be placed in SCOIR at least two weeks prior to the college application deadline.
Remember: If you are submitting ACT or SAT test scores, you will need to log into your ACT/College Board account and request that your scores be sent to the school(s) you are applying to. Questions? Please stop into the Counseling Center.
On Wednesday, December 4th the Counseling Center will be holding an in-person
College Planning Night – Part 1 for parents of the Sophomore & Junior classes. It will begin at 6:30pm. More info to follow….
The Fall Dance
The Fall Dance
On September 28th, the PTO hosted its 2nd annual Homecoming/ Fall Dance. Over 400 students attended and walked into a gym transformed into a Fall celebration. For over two hours guests danced to the music of Double Image Event Production. Finger foods were provided by Corrado's Pizzeria of North Salem. This couldn't have been done without the help of all the parents that volunteered by decorating, providing desserts, candy, drinks and cleaning up after the event. Students from the National Honor Society also helped blow up balloons!

Sign up for the 11th and 12th grade workshops will be coming out next week on November 4th. We have an exciting list of presenters from Careers in Finance, Veterinary Medicine, Publishing, Architectural Engineering, Foundations in Investing, Exploring your Future, How to Craft a Resume and Cover Letter, How to start a Fragrance Business, Bob Ross Paint Along, Hand Built Mugs, Pickleball, Chat with your SRO, JJHS Class of 21 Alumni- Story of Addiction and Road to Recovery and Storytelling. We look forward to having a great interactive and educational day for our Juniors and Seniors!
JJHS Robotics
High School Robotics students regularly attend middle school robotics build events, offering mentorship in building, coding, and team structure/management. Their support helps inspire and guide the next generation of young engineers. Mentorship happens weekly at the middle school FIRST Lego League team meetings.
Best Buddies
Best Buddies worked together to make scarecrows and paint pumpkins. They had fun dancing to square dancing music too. Everyone had a great time.

Architecture and Engineering students visited The Morgan Library this week, built in 1906 and renovated a hundred years later by Renzo Piano. They also saw The New York Times building, designed by the same architect, and stopped by the New York City Public Library

Lakota Children's Enrichment Club
The Lakota Children's Enrichment Club is collecting winter coats, hats, and gloves for the children of the Pine Ridge Reservation in North Dakota. Please bring in new or slightly used winter gear and drop off in boxes in the Main Office or Q104.
Athletics
New Hall of Fame Inductees
The next class of Hall of Fame inductees were announced at the October 18th Varsity Football Game. At next fall’s Homecoming, the Class of 2025 John Jay Hall of Fame Inductees will include the followiing:
Fall Sports Section Tournaments
As the fall sports season wraps up, we have several teams playing Sectional Tournament games. Varsity Girls Soccer won their first-round game against Fox Lane 1-0. They played a great game at Tappan Zee but lost 2-1 in overtime.
Varsity Field Hockey beat Walter Panas 8-1 in their first-round Sectional playoff game. They also beat Sleepy Hollow/Briarcliff 5-0 in the quarterfinals. They play their semi-finals game against Horace Greeley on Thursday, October 31st.
Varsity Volleyball is playing their first round of Sectional playoffs this Friday.
Our Varsity Boys Cross Country team are league champions and won the Class B County Championship last weekend. Andy Condon and Sloan Wasserman are individual league champions. Both teams are competing in the Section championship meet this upcoming weekend and are looking to have strong performances.
National Letter of Intent Signing Ceremony
On November 13th we are holding our annual National Letter of Intent Signing Ceremony in the John Jay High School Gym at 3:00PM. We will be celebrating qualifying seniors that are committed to competing for a Division I, II, or III college or university for the 2025-26 school year.
New Bleachers in the High School Gym
The new bleachers have been installed in the high school gym. Come watch the volleyball sectionals playoff game or an upcoming basketball game this winter season to check out the new gym!
National Honor Society

Save the date: The John Jay Chapter of the National Honor Society will be holding the induction for members of the class of 2025 on Monday, November 25th at 7pm in the high school auditorium. Parents, friends and families are invited!

Senior Portraits
Please read the Senior Portrait Information digital document to learn how to schedule your senior portraits for the 2025 yearbook. November 5th is the final day for portraits!
For those who have not already been photographed, please be sure you book your time slot now!
**All photos are taken at John Jay High School. When scheduling, please select Hudson Valley and John Jay High School. There is no need to go to the New Paltz studio unless you absolutely wish to do so.
Purchasing 2025 Yearbooks
Yearbooks are now available for purchase through our yearbook company called Varsity. Please visit www.yearbookordercenter.com or click here and enter the school code 4507.
Purchasing Senior Yearbook Ads
Friends and Family Ads are now available for purchase through the Yearbook Order Center. If you are interested in purchasing an ad, please visit www.yearbookordercenter.com or click here and enter job number 4507. You will see your options on ad size selections, and you will have the ability to create your own personalized ad. Please understand that space is limited. The deadline to design and purchase an ad is January 31, 2025. Due to yearbook deadlines, limited space, and inconvenience, prices on ads will be raised significantly after January 31, 2025.
Baby Photos
The Yearbook Club is now collecting senior baby photos. In order to proceed with the creation of the book in a timely fashion, there is a hard deadline (November 1, 2024) for this information. Baby photos must be uploaded via eShare. To upload, please visit www.hjeshare.com or click here or download the HJ eShare App--you must enter school code 4507. Please be sure to upload only one baby photo per senior. All photos must be approved by administration so please choose wisely before submitting.

All Senior Quotes are due by November 1, 2024! (All Seniors received a Microsoft form that needs to be filled out).

Reminders and Requirements
Dear Parents and Guardians,
For the 2024-2025 school year, please bring in your updated medication forms and a new supply of medication. Doctor’s orders MUST be dated after July 1, 2024. Forms can be found on the district website.
All students who carry emergency medication in their backpacks MUST have YEARLY medication orders on file in the health office.
All medication left after October 1st, 2024, without orders will be discarded.
This is a reminder that medication orders for emergency includes students who carry emergency medication in their backpacks. Please submit the updated forms as soon as possible (attached below).
As we begin the new school year, we want to ensure the safety and well-being of all our students participating in Physical Education and sports activities. If your child has experienced an injury, illness, or undergone surgery over the break, we kindly request an updated medical note from their healthcare provider.
This note should confirm that your child is cleared to return to PE and sports activities without any restrictions. Please submit this documentation to the school nurse by September 4th.

9th and 11th Grade NYS Mandate
Physicals with immunization records attached were due by October 15th. Physicals must be dated after September 4, 2023. Dr. Corsaro, our school district physician, will be conducting physicals in November for those students unable to schedule with their pediatrician. Please call the nurse's office to schedule.
Winter Sports Sign UpsRegistration is new open on Final Forms. Physicals must be dated after November 1st, 2023 for winter clearance. Sports information can be found on the athletic website.

The Fall Dance was a huge success! Tremendous thanks to the dance Committee - Luda Samuels, Peggy Almstead, Rochelle Carrington and Tatiana Gil Salerno - and all of the many volunteers who made it such a fun evening.
Our next event is the Turkey Trot on Wednesday, November 27th, with special Thanksgiving treats for our students. Keep an eye out for the sign-up form to volunteer or donate.

KLSD ArtsAlive is the arts booster club for the KLSD! We have promoted arts in education programming in the Katonah-Lewisboro School District since 1997 and has been a district-wide arts booster club for all KLSD schools since 2018. We believe that promoting the arts in our schools unifies our entire community. By supporting arts-related events and programming, we give everyone the opportunity to celebrate our talented students and teachers.
Through fundraising efforts (and thanks to your support), KLSD ArtsAlive has been able to contribute funds in recent years to the the Art Gallery, Pottery Wheels, the Sound Booth, Bandshells, and participate in Arts in Education programming for Student Workshops and Field Trips at John Jay High School.
