News from Mr. Kern
Dear Families,
As we move further into the school year, it’s wonderful to see how much progress our students are making! Watching them make connections as new learning takes place is truly rewarding. We are now fully settled into our routines, and students are navigating the building with ease and confidence.
Our new Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum continues to be a great success. We are thrilled to see students making positive choices and meaningful connections, directly reflecting the lessons they’ve learned through SEL. These moments are a testament to the importance of fostering strong character traits alongside academic growth.
Earlier this year, I shared the exciting news that April Malphurs, our talented Art Teacher, was named Minnesota Elementary Art Educator of the Year. I’m delighted to announce that she has also been nominated for National Elementary Art Teacher of the Year! We’re eagerly awaiting the results, but regardless of the outcome, we are so proud of the incredible work she does with our students every day.
Looking ahead, we’re already planning for spring events, including our Kindergarten Roundup. It’s hard to believe how quickly this school year is flying by!
Thank you for your continued support at home—it’s clear we have a community of involved families, and your efforts are making a significant difference in the achievement and success of our students. The partnership between home and school strengthens our community and ensures the best possible outcomes for our learners.
Have a fantastic weekend, and as always, don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.
Warm regards,
Principal Kern

News from the Library Media Center!
Students in grades 3-5 have been introduced to the Maud Hart Lovelace competition. This competition is sponsored by the Minnesota Youth Reading Association. In grades K-2, we read 10 picture books and then vote for our favorite as part of their Star of the North Picture Book Award. Students 3-5 have to read at least 3 of 10 nominated titles to vote for the Maud Hart Lovelace Award. Although I buy a few copies of each book for students to check out, it is hard to keep them on the shelves. Another option to read the books is through elibrarymn.org. This website offers free access to Ebooks Minnesota through Mackin. All of the Maud Hart Lovelace books are available on this site. Feel free to use the site for other books, too. Reach out to Mrs. Ranft with any questions mranft@isd2397.org.
Happy reading!
