The OMS Community Newsletter
Week of Sept. 16 - Sept. 20, 2024
Start with Hello Week
OMS participated in "Start with Hello Week," a Sandy Hook Promise prevention program focused on creating safer schools and communities by ending social isolation. "Start with Hello" is a national call-to-action week designed to promote inclusivity and belonging in schools. Each year, thousands of schools and youth organizations from across the United States participate in Start with Hello Week. This week focuses on teaching students empathy, encouraging them to make new connections, and creating a sense of belonging in school. Our students participated in activities throughout the week in their Knight Time Advisory and during lunch.
Monday- Heyday! Students were encouraged to wear a nametag and greet other students throughout the day. At lunch, they could write a hello-gram to a peer.
Tuesday: Upstander Tuesday - Students were introduced to the idea of being an upstander instead of a bystander. They continued this discussion during KT advisory on Thursday.
Wednesday- Wear Green Wednesday - Students and staff are wore green, the color of Sandy Hook Promise and mental health awareness.
Thursday- Trusted Adult Thursday - Students identified a trusted adult in the building and learned more about being an Upstander during their 50 minute advisory.
Friday- Moving Forward Fri-YAY - Students were encouraged to continue to say hello to others throughout the school year. Students were invited to contribute to a Start with Hello mural by placing a painted thumbprint on plexiglass. We will hang the mural in our hallway to encourage students to continue making positive connections with others.

Back to School Night
We held our Back to School Night on Tuesday, September 17th from 6:00-8:00pm. We began the night with a presentation by administration and then parents/guardians followed an abbreviated version of their child's schedule.
It was great to see so many parents and guardians at this week's Back to School Night! Parent involvement in a child's education is important and can help set them up for success in middle school. If you were not able to attend, you can always reach out to the teachers directly with any questions.
Please find a copy of the OMS Administration's Back to School Night Presentation.
Bilingual Parent Night
On Thursday, September 25th from 6:00-8:00 PM at Stoughton High School is Bilingual Parent Night. Parents will learn about school expectations, meet your child's ESL teacher, get help with the Parent Portal and more. Interpreters will be present. See the attached flyer.

Student Planners
The OMS PTSO provided student planners for all students this school year. Mrs. Bailey (Grade 8 Art Teacher) designed the cover for this year's planner. Thank you, Mrs. Bailey!
Students can use the planners to help with organization and keeping track of their school work. Students should bring their planner to every class so they can write down their homework and reminders for upcoming quizzes, tests, and projects.
THANK YOU to the OMS PTSO for supporting all of our students!
Picture Day
Picture Day is on October 10th! Lifetouch will be sending an email to parents/guardians soon. You can go to my.lifetouch.com and use the code below to order photos of your child.
Fall Ball Dance
The OMS PTSO is organizing our annual Fall Ball Dance! The dance will be on Friday, October 18th in the OMS Gym. The Grade 6 Dance will be from 5:00-6:30pm, the Grades 7 & 8 Dance will be from 7:00-8:00pm. Tickets for the dance are $5. Pre-sale tickets will be sold during lunch the week of the dance. Parents/guardians interested in chaperoning the dance? Please contact the PTSO at ptso.oms@gmail.com. All chaperones must have a CORI on file with SPS. If you are interested in chaperoning, complete your CORI as soon as possible as it can take a few weeks to process.
