Phenomenal Phelps Facts

GLOBAL PLAY DAY
Global Play Day was this Thursday at Phelps, and it was another big success. Students, grouped in their House meeting groups cross grade levels, rotated classrooms every 30 minutes and played various card games (like Uno, Go Fish, Old Maid), Board Games (like Sorry, Chutes and Ladders, Trouble), Movement Games (like Twister, Charades, Go Noodle), various puzzle and memory games, and building with cardboard or Legos. Playing games helps students learn skills like cooperation, patience, and turn taking, and promotes critical thinking. Playing games also helps reduce stress and improve social and sensorimotor skills. What a great way to spend a day! Big shout out to Mrs. Beatty and Mr. Leavitt for organizing the event.

MULTILINGUAL LEARNER VISIT
On Monday, multilingual eighth graders from Rogers Middle School visited our grade 4 ML students. What is a multilingual learner (ML)? A multilingual learner is a student who is developing proficiency in multiple languages, encompassing those learning English as an additional language (our students) and those fluent in English and learning another language. We are very lucky to have many multilingual learners at Phelps School, and this event was a great way for our students to make connections with students at the middle school and ask questions about what to expect. During this time, students created lanterns out of soda bottle for the district Art Festival coming up this spring. Thank you Mrs. Mirski for collaborating with RMS on this event!
