We are gearing up for Course Selections for the 2025-26 school year! Over the next few weeks students will be given resources to prepare them to choose their courses for next year. This week, they will be reviewing the Course Selection slideshow below. Parents/Guardians should review as well and start discussions with your students about choosing appropriate courses. On February 10, they will participate in Course Audit Day, where they can visit prospective classes to meet the teacher snd get an overview of the classes.

School District Facilities Planning Team - Parent Advisory Group
On Friday, January 31, the School District announced the members of the School District of Philadelphia's Comprehensive Facilities Planning Teams.
Palumbo HSA Member at Large Edwin Mayorga was selected to join the Parent Advisory Group. This group is one of several advisory groups that will work in collaboration with the Planning Teams to provide input and insights that will help to shape the formation of a Comprehensive Facilities Plan designed to address the condition and utilization of District facilities and ultimately improve academic achievement.

Become a Chaperone or Volunteer
Palumbo teachers and staff occasionally need chaperones for field trips and events. Volunteers also are needed throughout the year for various activities and events.

- FAFSA Completion Pop Up: Our second FAFSA Pop Up will be hosted at The School District Central Office, 440 N. Broad St. on Wednesday, 2/12 from 4:00-7:00. Students and families can register by clicking HERE.
- Advanced Planning for Higher Education Webinar: Join PHEAA in a webinar on Tuesday, 2/11 from 12:00-1:00 to learn how to understand the costs associated with higher education, and how to make affordable decisions. LINDSEY VONN FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP
The Lindsey Vonn Foundation Scholarships provide vital financial support for girls aged 10-18 to pursue their passions, whether in academics, sports, or personal enrichment.
The program is specifically designed for girls from underserved communities and offers up to $5,000 per scholarship. It’s not just about financial assistance—it’s about helping young women build confidence, overcome obstacles, and achieve their goals.
There are two types of scholarships:
- Enrichment Scholarships: For academic and enrichment activities like summer programs, music lessons, or other skill-building opportunities.
- Sport Scholarships: For young athletes to improve their skills and grow in their sport.
Applications are reviewed twice a year, and the upcoming deadline is March 31, 2025, at 5:00 PM EST.
JOB OPPORTUNITY
The Student Conservation Association is hiring 10 high school Crew Members for the Spring 2025 season at John Heinz NWR. Workdays are 7-hours, $11/hour, and on Saturdays from March to May. Transportation is provided for those who need it. Members will complete conservation projects, including invasive species management, urban gardening, trail maintenance, and planting. No experience is necessary, but interest, curiosity, and willingness to be and work outside is important. URQUHART MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
The scholarship application process is open for the Urquhart Memorial Foundation. For the past 22 years the Urquhart Memorial Foundation (UMF) has given over 1.5 million dollars to eligible students in the city of Philadelphia, who will be attending colleges or universities in the state of Pennsylvania.

NCNW SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY

AFBI Accounting Program - Now Accepting Applications
The AFBI Program is a FREE week-long program that teaches students about careers in accounting, finance, business, and technology. The upcoming program is scheduled to take place June 22, 2025 - June 27, 2025; however, the application deadline is February 28, 2025. During the program, students will spend the week in a college dorm room, participate in a case study, community service, mock interviews, visit various professional firms throughout the city, etc. Students will also have the opportunity to win college scholarships which will be presented at our Awards' Banquet. The program is scheduled to be held at Drexel University.
PARENT PORTAL REGISTRATION
*We are encouraging all parents and guardians to sign up for the Parent & Family Portal. This allows parents/guardians to have access to valuable information about your child's education. With the portal, you are able to view grades, track test scores, see attendance, view immunization records, set communication preferences, and access report cards.

REQUEST FOR EXCUSED ABSENCE FORM
You may use this electronic form to submit an excuse for your child's absence from school within three days of the absence. A doctors note must be provided after three consecutive days of absence. After 9 parental excuses, a doctors note will be required. Be sure to complete each section below to ensure the excuse is accepted. Written notes are also accepted in the main office. All request are subject to administrative approval.
