Dean Corner
As I transition into the role of Dean at Tosa West I am filled with mixed emotions. My time here has brought me so much excitement and joy as I have worked with and gotten to know our students and their families. I realize that change is a natural part of life however, you will definitely be missed. I am so grateful for the opportunity I’ve had to serve the Whitman community, learning and growing together. I look forward to reconnecting with many of you as you make the transition from middle to high school. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns. I’d be happy to assist where I can.
Sincerely,
Krishana Farago

Heard It Through the Grapevine
Information is readily available to stakeholders in various forms. On occasion, information is misinterpreted. In other instances, misinformation or rumors are forwarded, creating confusion and misunderstanding.
Please share what you’ve heard about our District or schools using this link. Questions will be responded to within 48 hours on our Heard It Through the Grapevine web page with facts in response to the question.
This form does not circumvent the Open Records Request process which can be accessed here.
Destination Imagination
A new DI season is upon us, with exciting new STEAM-based challenges and many opportunities for creativity, problem-solving, collaboration, personal growth, and FUN! Students in grades 5K-12 work in small teams on open-ended challenges from October/November through at least March (longer if they advance to state and international competition), and teams set their own meeting schedules so it’s easy to flex around other activities.
Tosa DI has a long and proud DI tradition and has even had teams go on to DI Globals. Last year, a Wauwatosa team even took first place in the world! But more importantly, DI is a great way for kids to build confidence and lifelong skills.
To make it easier for ALL Wauwatosa students to participate, the Friends of Tosa DI is offering a common sign-up form and fee structure. The sign-up deadline is Friday, Oct. 11. For more information, visit FriendsOfTosaDI.com.
We also need parent team managers for this volunteer-run program (training provided). If you have questions, please contact FriendsOfTosaDI@gmail.com.
Project Homeless Connect Waukesha Event
United Way, with help from ProHealth Care and many others, is hosting the third Project Homeless Connect Waukesha event, a free resource fair for anyone facing housing or financial instability. Last year this event served 100 individuals of all ages to provide everything from healthcare to haircuts, hygiene products to housing case management. This year, the event is expected to be even larger - including a free laptop for households who need one that they can take home that day.
The event will be held Tuesday, October 22, from 10am-3pm (guests should arrive before 2pm to receive services, and by noon to receive free lunch) at the Carroll University Campus Center Building, 101 N. East Avenue Waukesha, WI. Note: For those in the Milwaukee Area, there is a similar event on Thursday, October 17, 10am-3pm at Marquette University. Details on both events can be found at UnitedWayGMWC.org/PHC.
Child Development Screening
This school year, Wauwatosa School District will offer Child Development Screenings from 9am-12pm at the Fisher Building (12121 W. North Ave) on the following Friday mornings: October 25, 2024; December 6, 2024; February 7, 2025; and April 4, 2025. Please see these flyers for information regarding who is eligible for screening and how to sign up for a screening slot.
Trunk or Treat + Food Drive
The Recreation Department’s Trunk or Treat Community Event is back on Saturday, October 19! This year, the Rec Department is partnering with the Wauwatosa Police Department to provide this safe and fun event. Scan the QR code on this flyer to sign up to decorate a trunk or bring your child to collect candy. We kindly ask those participating and/or attending to bring donations as the event also serves a food drive for Tosa Cares. There will be music, face painting, food trucks, and a popcorn sale by Next Steps!
November 2024 Referendum Information Hub
On Tuesday, November 5, our community will vote on two referendum questions: an operational referendum and a capital referendum. Please click here to view our referendum information hub online.
It is important to note that the school configuration is yet to be determined. This proposed capital referendum does not commit the District to a JK-6 or 7-12 model. How and where the students are configured and grouped for learning purposes has not yet been determined by the Board of Education.
