Hello Cedar Families,

Our students are back in the groove of school after a long Winter break. Thank you for all of your efforts and support in getting students back to school.

As a reminder, this month, we are focusing on the theme of RESPECT—respect for ourselves, each other, and our school community. We encourage you to talk with your child about what respect looks like at home and at school to help reinforce this important value.

We’re also excited to celebrate a special milestone—the 100th Day of School on January 29th! It’s always a fun and meaningful day for our students, as we reflect on how far we’ve come and all we’ve learned together this year. We will wear bright neon colors on this day.

Black History Month is next month and we are planning to bring awareness to the contribution of historical black figures. If you would like to be a part of our planning team or contribute with music, art, dance, etc. please reach out to me at mablesc@unit5.org. Everyone is welcome!

Lastly, class pictures and group pictures will take place on January 21. We will also try to make up all the pictures for new students. You should receive information directly for H&R imaging regarding the order of pictures.

Hola Familias Cedar,

Nuestros estudiantes están de vuelta en el ritmo de la escuela después de unas largas vacaciones de invierno. Gracias por todos sus esfuerzos y apoyo para que los estudiantes regresen a la escuela.

Como recordatorio, este mes, nos estamos centrando en el tema de RESPETO-respeto por nosotros mismos, los demás y nuestra comunidad escolar. Les animamos a que hablen con sus hijos sobre cómo es el respeto en casa y en la escuela para ayudar a reforzar este importante valor.

También estamos muy contentos de celebrar un hito especial - ¡el Día 100 de la Escuela el 29 de enero! Siempre es un día divertido y significativo para nuestros estudiantes, ya que reflexionamos sobre lo lejos que hemos llegado y todo lo que hemos aprendido juntos este año. Usaremos colores neón brillantes en este día.

El mes que viene es el Mes de la Historia Negra y estamos planeando concienciar sobre la contribución de las figuras históricas negras. We kindly ask for your help in keeping your contact information up to date, especially if you have recently moved. Lately, we’ve had several instances where students’ addresses were not updated, leading to challenges in ensuring they get home to the correct location at the end of the day.

If your family has moved or is planning to move, please make sure to update your address with the school as soon as possible. To do so, you can:

1. Email the front office with your updated address, OR
2. Bring in proof of residency, which includes:
   • A copy of your lease agreement
   • Two recent utility bills

Once the updated information is verified, we will work directly with the bus company to ensure that your child has the proper transportation to get home safely and promptly.

Your cooperation helps us provide the best care and service for your child. If you have any questions about this process, please don’t hesitate to contact the front office.

OUR PROMISE TO YOU

We know that there are a wide variety of reasons that students are absent from school, from health concerns to transportation challenges. There are many people in our building prepared to help you if you or your student face challenges in getting to school regularly or on time. We promise to track attendance daily, to notice when your student is missing from class, communicate with you to understand why they were absent, and to identify barriers and supports available to overcome challenges you may face in helping your student attend school.

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

If your student is going to be absent, please contact the school in advance (309-557-4462)

*If you will be picking your students up before the dismissal time, call the office before 1:30 pm

ARRIVAL INFORMATION

Doors open at 7:25 A.M.

Front Doors close at 7:45 A.M.

Breakfast begins at 7:25. If you are bringing your student to school, please have them here as close to 7:25 as possible so they have time to eat breakfast.

Please have your student here on time. It disrupts learning when children arrive late.

HOW WE CAN WORK TOGETHER

• Send your child to school unless they are truly sick, such as fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or a contagious rash.

• Avoid appointments and travel when school is in session.

• Have a back-up plan for getting to school in case something comes up.

• Communicate with the school about how we can work together to support your child’s attendance.

• Check Infinite Campus for any bussing updates.

We want to thank you for your cooperation in making our car rider pick-up process as smooth and efficient as possible. To further streamline dismissal, you should have received a paper earlier this week. This paper is for you to write your child's name and teacher's name clearly.

Please ensure this paper is completed and displayed prominently in your vehicle during pick-up time. This will allow our staff to identify your child quickly and ensure a safer and faster dismissal process for everyone.

If you have not received the paper or need another copy, please contact the front office as soon as possible.

Please remember to contact the school office as soon as possible if your child will be absent. You can call the attendance line at 309-557-4462 or email our secretary, Brooke Starr, at starrbr@unit5.org and the classroom teacher to report the absence. Be sure to include your child's name, grade, and reason for the absence.
