Principal’s Message
Dates to Remember
October 21: After School Club Registration
October 28- November 1: Red Ribbon Week
October 31: Halloween
Dear IEYMS,
The school year is in full swing. Students are settling into their routines and are becoming very comfortable with life inside the Castle. Now that school is back in session, we hope that our parents have more time to relax and rejuvenate.
A lot is happening in our school. We celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month by students learning about the many ways in which Hispanics have contributed to the culture of our society. 6th graders were treated to their first author visit with Pablo Cataya. Pablo Cataya is a renowned author, motivational speaker, and friend of IEYMS. Our grade 6 students are preparing for their Fall trip to the Bronx Zoo while our 8th-grade students are gearing up for their Fall trip to Ellis Island in NYC. The 7th grade Fall trip is in the works. Our administrative team in collaboration with our social workers are visiting classrooms and hosting Town Hall meetings to reinforce our expectations for school. We also participated in an awareness campaign to bring attention to cancer through our "Pink Week" spirit week activities. Our athletic teams are in full competition mode. A special shout-out to our football, volleyball, soccer, and cross-country athletes.
Progress reports have been released and should arrive in the mail shortly if they have not already. They are readily available on Home Access. Many of our students are off to a great academic start! If your child is struggling in school, please contact your child's school counselor or teacher to set up a conference. You can hold a meeting in person or virtually.
Our PTA planned and hosted the first IEYMS PTA-sponsored Community Day where students were treated to an evening of games, dancing, food, and fun. They also hosted the first PTA meeting of the school year. The meeting featured guest speaker Lisa Newkirk, head of security, and members of the IEYMS administrative team. Parents learned more about the district's approach to security and tips for what to do during an emergency.
Please read below for exciting Castle News, updates, and announcements.

Red Ribbon Week
Life is A Movie, Film Drug Free
Red Ribbon Week highlights the importance of living a drug-free life. "It presents an opportunity for parents, educators, and communities to reinforce the drug-free messages they share with their children throughout the year. During Red Ribbon Week, youth, and adults around the nation pledge to increase their knowledge by learning more about the destructive effects of drug abuse, including prescription drug misuse, and renew their commitment to live a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. Red Ribbon Week honors the service of Special Agent Enrique (Kiki) S. Camarena who dedicated his life to fighting drug cartels. During his 11 years with DEA, Kiki received two Sustained Superior Performance Awards, a Special Achievement Award and, posthumously, the Administrator’s Award of Honor, the highest award granted by the DEA" (https://www.dea.gov/red-ribbon/kiki-red-ribbon-history.)
This year’s national theme is Life Is a Movie, Film Drug Free. During lunch, students at IEYMS can participate in a variety of activities aimed at bringing awareness to the importance of living a healthy life and making good choices. Join us as we continue to spread the message of living a healthy drug-free life by participating in the IEYMS Red Ribbon Spirit Week. Parents and guardians, wear your red on Monday, October 28 in support of Red Ribbon Week. Thank you, Mr. Leak and Ms. Vivolo, for organizing our Spirit Week.

Coming Soon to the Castle Stage!
Announcing the IEYMS 2024-2025 Spring Musical Show
Attention all actors, dancers, directors, stagehands, and visual artists, Matilda is coming to the Castle. Matilda is about a young girl with a big brain and an even bigger heart, who turns out to have supernatural powers. It is based on a book, which was turned into a movie, and then into a musical, and then into a movie again that you can watch on Netflix. We think the original is the best version of the movie! But decide for yourself. Either way, the movie Matilda is super funny, emotional, and weird. Auditions will be held on January 6, 7, and 8 the first week back from the winter break. To learn more, students may join the google classroom. The codes are posted in the grade level classrooms. Students can also see Mr. Harris, Ms. Reader, Ms. O'Connor, or Ms. Bianco for more information.
