What a busy start to our final half-term we have had but there is still plenty more to come. We hope those who came to Dads to Lunch enjoyed it as we know the children certainly did. Thank you to those of you who attended Sports Day and for your patience in dodging the rain! We have a number of parents events coming up so please make sure you check the diary section as we would love you to join us.
In this fortnight's newsletter you will find key dates, term dates, 'Guess the Baby' answers and club links. We hope you enjoy reading about what we have been up to and what we will be learning about next week.
Have a lovely weekend!
Our Learning
Pearls
Over the last few weeks we have been continuing our theme ‘Turrets and Tiara’s’. Last week we read ‘There was a dragon who swallowed a knight’ and we talked about all the things the dragon ate! Then we wrote our own lists of things a dragon could eat too! In our provision our focus has been on ‘dragons’ we have made our own 3D dragons using junk modelling, we have labelled the body parts of a dragon and made pens to keep our dragons in using our building blocks. In maths this week we have been recapping on odd and even numbers, ordering numbers correctly and adding numbers together. We also had our ‘Sports Day’ which was lovely. All the children did extremely well, thank you for your support.
This week we have read ‘The Knight who wouldn’t fight’ and ‘The Nibblesome Knight’ and our focus has been on friendship and kindness. We have had a lot of circle times discussing how to be a good friend and we have talked about our feelings and how to try to deal with negative feelings. In our provision we have been playing games that involve sharing and turn taking, making 3D pictures of our friends at our creative tables and making friendship bracelets using beads and pasta.
In maths we have been counting in 10s, using pennies to buy items in our classroom and telling the time (o'clock).
Next week our focus will be on castles (so lots of building!)
Rubies
It has been another busy two weeks for the children in Rubies. We’ve enjoyed a couple of different school events such as Sports Day and Dads to Lunch which the children thoroughly enjoyed.
We’ve been working on our non-chronological reports in English and have moved on to publishing our final piece. The children have produced some wonderful work, and we can’t wait to share it with you on our next newsletter.
In maths, we have begun looking at fractions concentrating on finding a half and a quarter of a shape. We’ve also been learning how to find fractions of amounts.
In computing, we have continued to build upon the skills we’ve already learnt and have moved on to using paint tools to create drawings of ourselves. The children had a wonderful time during this lesson and have produced some masterpieces.
In science, we have begun researching about different habitats ready to create a fact file. The children are using books, information sheets and the internet as part of their research stage and we look forward to sharing our completed fact files with you soon.
Diamonds
The weeks are flying by in Diamonds! Our team are so impressed with how the children are responding to such a fast pace and changes to our usual time table.
Last week, we were fortunate to have a practise sports day with Jordan from Hull FC, then, luckily, the sun eventually came out so that we could go ahead with our planned sports day! We hope that you enjoyed it as much as we did! A special shout out to Alfie, Joey and Harry, for helping and ensuring that the races ran smoothly. A huge ‘Well Done’ to all involved.
During Guided Reading, we have been continuing with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, making predictions, inferring and referencing the text. Within English, we have used hot-seating to question Willy Wonka on the settings within his factory. Maths, has seen us conclude our statistics work by looking at line graphs and knowing that these graphs are used for continuous data. In Science, we focused on different areas of the school, deciphering different noises and how we believe those sounds were created.
A lot of our focus has been preparing for our up and coming KS2 production. The children are doing amazingly well, learning their lines and practising their scenes. Alongside this, we have been busy beavering away using our artistic skills, creating props and scenery background. For our music focus, we have been learning our songs (and a dance or two!)
Please could children continue to practise their spellings at home, for spelling tests on a Friday. As always, we love to see children’s reads on Seesaw! We do keep reminding children that this half-terms reading reward is definitely one they won’t want to miss out on! Also, as previously mentioned, we are having a huge push on attendance this half-term - it is essential that children are in school, on time, every day.
Finally, PE kits should be brought into school every Monday and left for the whole school week, until the end of term. Thank you for all of your help, it is much appreciated. Have a lovely weekend. The Diamonds Team.
Sapphires
Another hectic two weeks in the Sapphires. The children are enjoying reading Wild Boy – will he be accused of murder? What is the machine? Will Wild Boy escape?
In writing, the children have written wonderful character descriptions in the role of Wild Boy. They have included expanded noun phrases and subordinating conjunctions in these. They have created Wanted posters about the Wild Boy. In maths, the Sapphires have enjoyed learning about decimals multiplication and division. They have solved problems from the natural curriculum.
Our final history lesson, the children created a diamond 9 and discussed the various achievements of the Maja and made decisions as to which were the most important. To kickstart our geography learning, the children recapped their learning on the countries of the UK, the regions and the counties of England. The Sapphires loved learning about the geography of North America. They compared the 3 countries: Canada, America and Mexico.
In art, the children have analysed some Mayan artwork and created Mayan masks. Currently, the Sapphires are creating the props for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. In PSHE, the children have been discussing body image and self-esteem.
The Year 6s had a lovely afternoon with Mrs Beadle gardening – thank you for giving them this opportunity. Some of the Year 5s have attended Arete for sport, English and art at Delta Academy.
Less than two weeks until our residential! The Sapphires are very excited about this and are on a countdown. Then the following week, it’s our KS2 production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory – keep learning the lines and practising the songs. We can’t wait for you all to see this!
Please keep sending reads on seesaw (this can include the production lines), practising spellings and coming to school everyday so we can get 100% attendance in Sapphires by the end of the year. Thank you for all your support, from the Sapphires team.
Sports Day
Thank you for joining us and your patience while we dodged the showers!
Dads to Lunch
We really hope that everyone who joined us had a great time. It was hoped that our packed lunches could enjoy a picnic on the field but as usual the weather had other plans!

Have your say
We would love to know what current and past parents of our Pearls think about our provision. What do we do well? What could we focus more on? Are their any changes that you think would support the children or you as families?
All responses can be anonymous so please let us know your thoughts. If you would prefer a paper copy then these are available already printed at the main entrance.
We are just commencing a project to further improve our Little Pearls provision and the Pearls including the outdoor area which we cannot wait to share when completed.
*We have now set aside some funds to replace our outdoor flooring and hope to get this work completed over summer *

Weather
As the weather hopefully warms up it may be that children need suncream. Please apply this before school but your child is welcome to bring some with them to reapply themselves. Children who are unable to apply suncream themselves, such as those in Pearls, should have this put on before school and staff can support them with reapplying as long as they are made aware of this.
Hats can be provided by school in hot weather and all children have access to a water bottle throughout the day.
Creating shade can be an issue for us but we do try to make areas using our school gazebos - if anyone is replacing theirs at home please consider donating to us as we always need more!
