Washington Primary PK End of Year Celebration!
Summer Meal Program
The Summer Meal Program will run from May 20 - July 23, 2024
Washington Community Schools Sodexo Food Service is pleased to provide FREE breakfast and lunch meals for all children age 18 and under over the summer.
May 20 - May 31: OPEN TO THE PUBLIC - IREAD congregate lunch at Washington Intermediate served from 11:30 - 12:00. Use the main entrance.
June 4 - July 23: WCS will be distributing non-congregate meals out of the High School at Gate 4 between 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm each Tuesday. At this meal pick-up we will provide breakfast, lunch, and milk for 5 days for each child in your home. Only parents or legal guardians may pick up meals this year.
Based on USDA rules a child cannot participate and receive meals from both programs. So, if your child is eating lunch, breakfast, or a snack at their summer camp/daycare they cannot participate in the meal distribution that week. We will be using rosters from each camp/daycare to ensure families are not getting meals at both sites. You will be required to provide the name of each student you are receiving meals for. To speed up service, please have the name of the children you are getting meals for written down.
Thank you for your cooperation in helping us stay compliant with USDA rules and regulations, which allows us to continue to serve meals to our kids for free!
Sun Bucks - Summer Electronic Benefits Transfer
The state of Indiana announced that applications for the Summer Electronic Benefits Transfer (SEBT) program, also known as SUN Bucks, are now open.
SUN Bucks is a new benefits program that provides families a one-time payment of $120 for each eligible school-aged child to help purchase groceries during the summer. This ensures that students continue to have access to healthy meals beyond the school year.
Washington Community Schools students may be eligible because our district participates in the CEP program. Some parents must apply to participate in the program, click the button below for more information.
We are Grateful for Our Very Own Hatchet Hero Sandy Harbstreit!
Quick thinking and effective training likely prevented a tragedy at Washington Upper Elementary when a child began choking during lunch.
Ms. Sandy Harbstreit, a valued member of our Sodexo maintenance staff, noticed the emergency and promptly sprang into action, performing the Heimlich Maneuver.
Her swift response was crucial in resolving the situation and ensuring the child's safety. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Ms. Harbstreit for her dedication and heroic intervention.
WHS Senior Accepted to an Ivy League University
We are shining a spotlight on Washington HS Senior Xavier Frank, who has been accepted to Princeton University!
"My name is Xavier Frank, son of Kevin and Amy Frank, and I will attend Princeton University in Princeton, NJ next year! I plan on majoring in physics and possibly minoring in math, philosophy, or some kind of data science (computer science or statistics).
I chose Princeton because of the elite opportunities that I will have access to during and after my time there. From some of the best teaching in the world to fantastic alumni networking opportunities, I believe Princeton is the best fit for me.
Princeton also requires a senior thesis which can be thought of as a mini dissertation required at the end of your senior year. This part of the curriculum excites me because it opens the door for me to not only participate in but lead research during my undergraduate studies. This will help me further understand my subject of study and be an impressive part of graduate school applications as I plan on getting my Ph.D. in physics or quantum science and engineering after I graduate from college.
I am very excited for the next chapter of my life, and I am extremely grateful for all of the opportunities that Washington provided that helped me get into the position I am today. Go Hatchets & Tigers!"
