Autumn Half-Term Round-Up
It may at times have been a challenging first half-term but we have still had lots of fun with much more still to come.
We have had a great first week back and are looking forward to the rest of this term especially on the build up to Christmas.
I hope you enjoy having a look at what we have been up to and please take a look at our Facebook and Twitter pages.
Bonfire Night
All of the children have looked at safety on Bonfire Night.
We hope you all have a lovely time if you are going to attend an event or celebrating at home. Please keep safe and for tips on how to keep your pets safe and calm visit the RSPCA website How to Keep Your Pets Safe During Fireworks | RSPCA
Pearls
This half term has started with an exciting and very spooky Halloween party! Pearl’s class had a lovely time with Rubies class on Monday afternoon. This week we have been focusing on Diwali, which is celebrated on 4th November, we have made our own diya lamps, rangoli patterns with pasta and Diwali cards. We have also been focusing on Bonfire night and firework safety. We have been making our own junk modelling fireworks and we have been playing counting and phonics games related to both Diwali and Bonfire night.
Next week we are looking forward to Science week and starting our new theme for this half term – Polar Regions!
Rubies
Diamonds
Diamonds have been busy taking inspiration from the northern lights and creating their own oil pastel paintings. They then spent a long 10 days in isolation and learnt virtually by creating posters explaining what is happening to the Arctic and what we can do to help. We took our creativity home and built models out of anything we could find! Some of us also rehearsed our numbers in French.
This half-term we have begun looking at the Ice Age and enjoyed our Halloween Disco. For further information on what we will be covering please take a look at our class page Swinefleet Primary School - Diamonds (Y3 & Y4) and Seesaw.
Sapphires
This week we have started our new topic of the Ice Age and have begun to create a fact file. We have moved on to division and enjoying the challenge set by TT rock stars which is helping our speed and fluency. It was a great start back with the Halloween party with super costumes and has ended with staying safe during bonfire night. Have a good and safe weekend.
Autumn 2 Diary Dates
Reading Reward
We are aware that some of you feel it is a struggle to fit this in at home so children can now sign up to reading club at school which runs on a Mon lunch and Thurs evening. Either of these clubs will count as 3 reads so why not sign up to both.
This will start from Monday 8th November and cover 5 weeks so that the treat can be organised for the final week before Christmas.
15 reads (equivalent to 3 reads a week) = Christmas movie session
20 reads (equivalent to 4 reads a week) = Christmas movie session with access to our movie VIP service which includes visiting the hot chocolate station and Christmas treats area.
30 reads (equivalent to 6 reads a week) = All of the above and Christmas themed prizes e.g. Christmas stationary, Christmas goodies.
For younger children sharing a story together counts as reads too.
We would prefer reading is logged on Seesaw or Tapestry as this helps provide evidence of children's reading skills and supports our in school assessments. It also allows staff to have a dialogue with the children about the book they are reading. We will also accept written records of reading so please just let us know if you require a log to record this on.
