Last year, out staff members of the week were selected by our students. This year, we are looking for our staff members to nominate each other. If you think there is a staff member who deserves to get recognized, please be sure to fill out this Google Form. The form will be open throughout the year so please remember to nominate our amazing staff members when they go above and beyond!

This is always a good reminder to find the positivity and to focus on what we are grateful for.

Each day, I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the Southport community and to have the honor of watching each of you devote yourselves to the students of Southport High School!

All staff members are welcome to participate in the Homecoming spirit days and events. Let's show our Cardinal pride this week!

• Elaine Miller for organizing and completing the required hearing screenings this past Wednesday for our current 10th graders and students new to SHS. She was able to screen 789 students in 3 hours!!!!
• James Thorpe, Officer Patterson, Matt Weimer, and the Senior class officers for organizing a successful senior sunrise event on Friday.
• The World Language hallways for positively reinforcing student behavior (they are giving candy to students wearing their lanyards)!
• Congratulations to the Girls and Boys soccer teams for both walking away with ties against PMHS last week. The girls tied 2-2 and the boys tied 1-1.
• Our Cross Country teams and coaches for an exemplary behavior report from the IHSAA. They were complimented for their sportsmanship and respect towards their fellow competitors.
• Everyone for a great August - enforcing the cell phone policy and dress code expectations take extra time and energy and we want you to know that it is noticed and very much appreciated!

Congratulations to Coach Chelsea Hoffman on her 100th win!

The SHS volleyball team defeated Terre Haute South in 4 sets on Thursday to move to 1-0 in conference play and 8-4 overall.

The senior class organized their senior sunrise breakfast this past Friday. Along with breakfast, the students played games, listened to music, and enjoyed watching the sunrise together in Cardinal Stadium. Thank you to all who helped organize, setup, supervise and clean up for the event. The kids said they had a great time!

During halftime of the SHS vs PMHS football game, the district recognized all of the teachers of the year for each building. A special congratulations to SHS teacher of the year, Jamie Marshall, for receiving the loudest cheer when she was announced. She positively represents SHS and it was wonderful to see her receive the appreciation she deserves!

Each year, Coach Bettag coordinates with Perry Township elementary schools to have SHS football players read to elementary students during iPass on Fridays. It is a great way for our student athletes to be leaders and to create a sense of community. These particular pictures are from Jeremiah Gray Kindergarten Academy. Thank you to the football coaches and players for positively representing SHS!
