STUDENT HANDBOOK AND CODE OF CONDUCT
Mrs. Batelka met with all students this past week to discuss the SMCPS Student Handbook and Code of Conduct.
A major focus of the presentation and discussion was that everyone has a "job" in our school. We discussed that our students' job is to "learn," and what it looks like when our students do their job.
- Students need to be responsible and attend school.
- Students need to be responsible and help keep our school safe.
- Students need to be respectful and wear clothing and shoes that are not distracting and are safe.
- Students need to be respectful and follow our school-wide routines.
- Students need to be ready to learn when it's time to work.
Families are encouraged to review and discuss the presentation with their child(ren).
ATTENDANCE MATTERS!
Did you know....
In order to participate in after-school activities or events a student must be in attendance for a half day of school.
A student is considered truant if a student is unlawfully absent from school for more than:
- 8 days in any marking period
- 15 days in any semester
- 20 days in a school year
A student is considered chronically absent is they miss 2 or more days/month.

Students will learn about respect and think about how everyone can learn in different ways!
SEPTEMBER KINDNESS CALENDAR
Let’s kick off the new school year with our
September Kindness Calendar for Students!
In addition to our monthly character trait and mindset, our RES students, families and staff will continue to practice acts of kindness all year long. CLICK HERE to view and print the kindness calendar for September. Paper copies of the kindness calendar will be sent home on Tuesday, September 5th, if not sent home already.
Students: For every kindness task our students complete, they will check it off their calendars. Students may return their calendar to their homeroom teacher, or to Mrs. Britt, on October 2nd, 2023
Students with 20 or more completed tasks will join Mrs. Britt in a kindness activity during lunch!
