Dear West Haven Families,
Teacher assignments will be made available through PowerSchool tomorrow. As you are finding your child's teacher, please remember that much time and thought as well as a focus on each student and their needs, were put into the class placements. We attempted to honor every parent request that was made through the Teacher Request Form. This form was open all of March and into April. Several factors are considered when making class placements including personalities, student behaviors, student academics, strengths of teachers, and the need to separate students who have a hard time working together at the present time. Each class has a unique dynamic that is built from the needs of each student. Please keep this in mind as you discover your child's new teacher.
I still remember riding my bike to my elementary school to look at the class lists that were posted on the front of the school doors. (Yes, it was a while ago.) After finding out who my teacher was, I would always search for my friends to see if we were in the same class. Sometimes we would get to be together, but many times we were not.
Due to the many factors that are considered when making class lists, we cannot base the class lists according to best friends.
We anticipate that there may be students who will be disappointed to find that their best friend is not in their class. I can empathize with this as my own daughter found out yesterday that she is not going to be in the same class as her little "bestie". Your response as a parent/guardian is extremely powerful. Please continue to build them up, as you always do, and remind them that there are many new friends to make. Elementary school is the perfect time to make new friends. Our grades often do many activities together, so students will still have the opportunity to be with their friends, even if they are not in the same class. We kindly ask our families to give the class placement a chance. If there are concerns beyond not being with friends, please reach out to the teacher to see if accommodations need to be made to support your student in the current setting.
We are excited to get back to a new year and to see all of our returning students again and to meet all of our new students.
