NISD has purchased additional metal detectors to be used at our schools. The high schools
piloted the program last year and now Middle Schools will be using them for the 2024-25 school
year. As a part of this pilot program, detectors will routinely be moved from one site to another.
Their use will allow for random checks of students, staff, or visitors and will be coordinated by
NISD Police and campus administration. This will also support the work of our Police canine
unit.
This initiative is underway at all of our secondary schools and will continue through the
remainder of the school year.
We are committed to keeping our schools safe for students and staff and will continue to be
proactive in the measures we take to achieve this goal.
