RSU 57 Community Newsletter
September 18, 2024
Message from the Superintendent
Dear RSU 57 Families and Community Members,
As we embark on the 2024-2025 school year, I want to take this opportunity to reflect on our shared goals and outline the exciting journey ahead as we work to prepare students for success in an ever-changing world.
Celebrating Our Staff
In recognition of our incredible staff, yesterday was IT Professionals Day, and we want to extend our deepest gratitude to the members of our Technology Department. Their hard work and expertise are vital in supporting student experiences and enhancing learning through technology. From maintaining critical infrastructure to ensuring teachers and students have the tools they need, their efforts are the backbone of our district’s daily operations. Without their dedication, our schools would not function as seamlessly as they do, and we are immensely grateful for the countless ways they keep our schools running smoothly.
In addition to IT Professionals Day, we are also preparing for Custodial Appreciation Day on October 2. Our custodial staff plays an equally critical role in creating a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for our students and staff. Their hard work ensures that our schools are maintained to the highest standards, and we look forward to celebrating their contributions.
Our Core Priorities for 2024-2025
Guided by our strategic plan, we are committed to ensuring our students are prepared for success in an ever-changing world. Our priorities for the year include:
Engaging Our Students: We are dedicated to creating an inspiring environment that fosters learning and encourages active student participation.
Attracting and Retaining Staff: We are thrilled to welcome new staff members whose passion and expertise will enrich the educational experience for our students. Their dedication is invaluable as we strive to maintain excellence.
Maintaining Facilities: Safe, welcoming, and well-maintained schools are essential to creating a productive learning environment.
Strengthening Community Partnerships: Your ongoing support and involvement are crucial as we work together to nurture our students and build a thriving educational community.
Commitment to Safety
Ensuring student safety is our top priority, and we rely on your cooperation to maintain a secure environment. When visiting our campuses, your vigilance is key. Should you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to contact your child's principal. We are here to support not only your child’s academic journey but also their emotional well-being. Contact information for each school is listed below for your reference.
Enrollment Update
I am pleased to share that our district's enrollment has grown to 2,910 students this year—a reflection of the trust our families place in RSU 57. We are committed to meeting the diverse needs of each student, and this growth energizes our mission to provide exceptional educational opportunities for all.
Fall Athletics
Fall athletics are in full swing, with over 450 student-athletes participating at both the middle and high school levels—the highest in over a decade! The excitement and enthusiasm surrounding our teams foster school spirit, teamwork, and physical fitness. We invite you to cheer on our teams and show your support for our student-athletes this season.
The Importance of Daily Attendance
Daily attendance is vital for academic success. Each day your child is present contributes to their learning and development. We ask for your continued support in ensuring regular attendance, which is key to their educational growth.
Join Our Team
We are actively seeking to fill several positions within the district. If you or someone you know is interested in joining our dedicated team, please share the attached link to our current job openings. Your referrals help strengthen our community of educators and support staff.
Thank you for your continued commitment to our schools and students. Together, we will make this year a remarkable one for all.
Sincerely,
Stephen D. Marquis, PhD.

NJROTC Tours Coast Guard Station in South Portland
On September 12, Massabesic High School's Navy JROTC cadets had the opportunity to experience getting underway on the 47-foot Motor Lifeboat during a field trip to the Coast Guard Station in South Portland. This lifeboat is an essential search and rescue vessel used by the U.S. Coast Guard, especially in heavy weather. During the visit, students toured the station, learned about the daily routines, and gained insight into various Coast Guard missions and rates.

MHS Career Fair
Calling All Businesses, Industries & Community Partners!
Massabesic High School is hosting an Annual Career Fair on October 23, 2024, from 7:30-11:30 am in the school’s gymnasium.
Our goal is to inspire the youth in our community to be Career and College ready. It is important for students to explore different career fields in a variety of interest areas or even explore options they have not yet considered. The Annual Career Fair enables students to connect with local companies and helps spread the word about your company and job openings.
We cordially invite you to be a part of this great event. If you are able to join us, you will be responsible for running a booth and discussing with students your workday and the skills and education needed to be successful in your particular career field. If you have any flyers or job postings available, this would be a great opportunity to bring them.
If you are interested in representing your business, please complete the form linked here.
Please feel free to email Marianne Stephenson if you have any questions mariannestephenson@rsu57.org.
