Orana Catholic Primary School
Term 2, Week 3, 2024
Prayer of St Francis
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.
O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console,
To be understood as to understand,
To be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen

Dear Parents and Carers,
Catholic Identity
ANZAC Day Liturgy
Thank-you to the Year 6 staff and students for leading the child-focused and poignant ANZAC Liturgy. The choir sang beautifully and congratulations to George who played the Last Post and Reveille with Ms Draper.
Education
It has been an extremely busy time for our Year 5 and 6 students. The Year 5 students enjoyed an excursion to the dress rehearsal for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at Corpus Christie. The experience was educational in experiencing a dress rehearsal and also entertaining. The Year 5 and 6 students had the puberty talk incursion and the Year 6 Camp at Ern Halliday. The students were fully engaged and actively participating in enjoyable camp adventures.

Here is a snapshot of the highpoints shared:
· Leadership Groups
· Make a Move
· New Teachers
· The Fundowner
· Buddies
· Welcoming new friends to Orana
Community
Cultural Sharing Week / Cultural Dress Day
The Year 6 students and staff did an amazing job at leading the Cultural Sharing Week, planning activities, like the universal game of mixed year level soccer and running the special assembly. Congratulations to the students that demonstrated their multi-lingual abilities at the assembly and those that wore their cultural attire with pride. Many thanks to Janet and the P and F for organising and funding the fabulous Rhythm Culture Drumming Incursion. Students had a fabulous experience learning about culture through music. Thank-you also to community members that shared their cultural during the lunchtime library session.

From Our P & F
Dear Orana P and F Community,
We would like to formally thank Elyse Byers for her time and contribution to the role of P and F Secretary, over the last 2 years. Elyse has done a fabulous job in an efficient and humble manner. Elyse has had to step down from this role. We welcome Shannon Foster to the committee and thank her for taking on the secretary role. We also thank Kate Caporn for taking on the coordination of the canteen volunteer roster.
Our school P & F still require the following positions to be filled:
P & F Chair
Coordinator of Classroom Reps
Please consider how you can assist your child's school through the P & F. It is by filling these positions, that community events can take place. You can also join the committee as a general member. If you have any queries, please contact the P & F - oranapandf@gmail.com

Attendance
The Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) reinforces the strong correlation between school attendance and student achievement and highlights the importance of forming good attendance habits early. Poor attendance has serious and lasting consequences, in limiting achievement, social isolation, reducing engagement and the possibility of negative family dynamics to name a few.
Uniform Update
The Uniform Subcommittee continues to meet and work with the new supplier, One World Uniforms. We hope to roll out the new summer sports uniform either later this term or early next term. Early released items will include the reversible bucket hat (house colour on the underside), the new Orana school polo, shorts and socks. All new items will become available in Term 4 when the onsite shop opens. The current uniform guidelines will also be reviewed in readiness to be released with the new uniform in Term 4.
We understand that some items are running low at our existing supplier. Track tops and parts will be available at Uniform Concepts in May. Socks are in limited supply in some sizes, so please wear plain white socks until the new socks arrive, if the required size is unavailable. We have some old uniform stock left from the sale on Monday. Look out on Seesaw for a list of available items.
Here is a preview of our new house shirts.

Another Good Reason to Get Them Running Around
If exercise was a living breathing thing, it would have its own talk show for the stellar things it does.
Its importance to physical health has been long established but in recent decades, there has been an ever-expanding body of research that has demonstrated the importance of exercise to mental health, particularly in terms of its ability to reduce stress and depression. Recently, a fascinating study has added to this research demonstrating the importance of exercise to cognitive function.
Kind regards
