Principal's Message
Dear Adelante Selby Spanish Immersion families,
I hope everyone is well. Thanksgiving is the time to connect with family and friends, enjoy lots of good food, and also to reflect on the many things for which we are thankful and grateful. I am thankful for all of our students who try their best to learn and be kind to each other every day Our students give us all a daily reminder about what is really important in this world and why we do what we do. I am thankful for our parents and families who have created a supportive partnership between the home and the school. I am thankful for all of our staff and community partners at Adelante Selby Spanish Immersion School; they truly care about students and have everyone's best interests at heart. I would like to wish each of you and your families a happy, healthy, safe and relaxing Thanksgiving holiday.
I want to thank the entire Adelante Selby community for embracing the Ruby Bridges Walk To School Day event. For a first time event, we had a great number of students, staff, and parents participating in walking to school. We also had everyone wearing purple and embracing the message that EVERYONE is welcome at our school and to commemorate Ruby Bridges bravery and importance. A Thank You and Shout Out to Jose Luna and Claudia Sandoval for organizing a meaningful activity for students to write a message on a shoe print creating a Ruby Bridges Mural. A Thank You and Shout Out to parent Casia Ravi for helping bring this new tradition to our school. 5th Grade Outdoor Education Trip January 22- 26th
The 5th grade students will be attending Outdoor Education at YMCA Camp Jones Gulch, near La Honda, during the week of January 22, 2024. Outdoor Education is one of the most memorable experiences of a child’s school years. The students experience the life science standards taught by attending classes, taking field trips, hiking and experiencing the natural environment, and they bond with classmates. The outdoor education naturalists provide a fun, educational, and interactive week of activities. You can also go to the Outdoor Education website at http://www.smcoe.org/learning-and-leadership/outdoor-education/, where you can read about the naturalists and program provided.

New TK/Kindergarten Registration 2024/25 and Tours
The School District Enrollment and School of Choice for 2024/25 TK/Kindergarten opened on November 2nd and continues through Friday, January 19th at 3:00pm. It is important that both the Registration/Enrollment Form for your home school(based on your address) and the School of Choice Form for Adelante Selby Spanish Immersion must be completed by January 19th. Current PreSchool students here on our campus and siblings of students who are currently enrolled here and at Kennedy in the Spanish immersion strand have priority acceptance as long as the forms are completed on time by January 19th. Please complete this Adelante Selby Sibling 2024/25 Form so we can alert the District to prioritize your acceptance for next year.
Please help get the word out to family, friends, and neighbors about our weekly informational TK/Kindergarten Tours that meet in person at the school office every Thursday at 8:40AM and the tours will continue through the end of January. Please register for a TK/Kindergarten Tour with this form: TK/Kindergarten Tour Registration. Promoting our school by "word of mouth" from parents and community members is the best way to "market" our school and immersion program to prospective new parents. When promoting our school, keep in mind that mastering two or more languages has enormous benefits for our students, both native speakers of English and native speakers of the target language(Spanish) at a dual language immersion school. Other talking points when talking about our school are that research has confirmed the benefits of biliteracy and bilingualism that are demonstrated as brain and cognitive functioning, academic, economic, and social advantages, as well as cross-cultural competency and supporting a stronger family cohesion and connection to their family heritage.

Child Nutrition Services: Breakfast and Lunch Menus
A healthy body fosters a healthy and focused mind. Well-rounded meals served in RCSD school cafeterias are created using USDA nutrition guidelines as well as “kid-approved” recipes. Whole grains, milk, fresh produce, protein, and healthy fats containing Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids are the stars of the breakfast and lunch menu items. Studies show that good eating habits and healthy behaviors are connected to academic achievement. Meals provided by Child Nutrition Services help to shape lifelong healthy habits. All students have the opportunity to eat breakfast and lunch for free again this year through our Child Nutrition Services.
Here are the menus for August(you can use the same links for the September Menu which is not available yet):
