Mission Statement
St. John Lutheran School exists to nurture children in faith and intellect, equipping them for Christian lives of service.
"Be kind and compassionate to one another,
forgiving each other, just as God in Christ has forgiven us."
Ephesians 4:32
Church / School / Community Picnic
We have something special planned for Saturday, September 7. At 4:00pm, St. John will be having a worship service in which all the school children will participate as they sing two songs, “God Loves Us/Jesus Loves Me” and “Oh, How Good It Is”. We plan to have all students in Preschool through 8th grade singing together. Please fill out this form to let us know if you are able or unable to attend. We hope to see all the students there!
After the service, there will be a picnic, and all of our school families are invited. There will be music, a bounce house for the kids, a corn-hole tournament, and BBQ pulled pork as the main menu item. Plan to stay for a while and enjoy some fun, fellowship, and free food!
Labor Day Break
Each year St. John provides a T-shirt for each student to wear on Spirit Days and field trips. Please fill out the size, name, and grade information on the attached form (one form for each student) so we can get an accurate count for our order.
Parent Teacher Partnership
The Parent Teacher Partnership (PTP) is a volunteer-based group created to carry out the following objectives:
- promote the Christian welfare of the children and youth in church, home, school, and community;
- foster a Christian relationship among the congregation, pastors, teachers, students, and parents;
- promote a spirit of pride in our school;
- assist in the planning and organizing of special school activities; and
- help establish an interesting and educational program for the members of the organization.
Parent participation is crucial to the success of this group, and we are always looking for new members to assist in this endeavor. Our first meeting of the year will be on Tuesday, September 10, at 3:30pm. We will meet in the 7th-8th grade classroom, and ESS will be available at no charge for children while the parents attend. Please consider attending and participating in the planning for the coming school year.
Chapel Offering for the 2024-2025 School Year
This year, our school chapel offerings will be supporting the ministry of Jesse and Emily Rider, who are missionaries in Southeast Asia. They are in their second year there. They are both graduates of Martin Luther College, our synod’s worker training school. Our offerings will be used directly to help them spread God’s Word to those who need to hear it in Southeast Asia. Click here to learn more about their ministry, or check out the bulletin board display in the fellowship hall.
Chapel Offerings so far: $45.75

Picture Day
Lights, Camera, Smile!
Picture day is fast approaching on September 6. Students should come to school dressed to impress! We will be taking photos in the morning starting with the younger grades, so if they would like to bring extra clothes to school to change into, that would be a great idea.
Retakes will be in October, so if they do not like their photo, they can retake it.
There is a paper that will be sent home with your child regarding a schedule for retakes and ordering photos online.
Piano Lessons
Piano lessons began this week, and Mrs. Kopczynski has room for a few more students. Piano lessons are a non-demanding and fun way to learn more about God's gift of music. If your child, in Grades 2-8, is interested in lessons during the school day, there is an information sheet in the office, or you can reach out directly to Mrs. Kopczynski at pfkopczynski@gmail.com.
Music Lessons
Shoreland Lutheran High School partners with our school to offer lessons on band and string instruments throughout the year. Mr. Wordell and Ms. Lawson will be visiting our school and presenting the program to students in grades 4-8. Lessons will officially start mid- September.
More information can be found here.

Parent Resource for You!
St. John is a part of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS). The WELS publishes a monthly magazine called Forward in Christ. In that publication is a parent column. Being a Christian parent is challenging. Although we have a wonderful resource in God's Word, the Bible doesn't always answer our parenting questions with black and white answers--and neither does "Parent conversations." What "Parent conversations" does provide is real-life perspectives from parents who are struggling with the same questions as you. Please check out the posted articles and see if any of them are helpful to you. Articles are found at forwardinchrist.net/parents.
Join the Football Pool
Mr. Retzlaff is organizing a football pool for any interested parents. It is just for fun with no money involved, but at the end of the season, there will be trophies for our top three places. The pool is run through the CBS Sports website. To join, you simply need to click on this link and sign up to create an account. Each week of the regular NFL season, you pick who you think will win, and then you place a value from 1-16 on each game. It’s pretty simple – but lots of fun. Click on the link, sign up, and join our pool called “The Eagle’s Nest”. The first game of the season is Thursday, September 5.
