Curriculum Overview

24 February 2025
Dear Parents and Carers,
At St James’ Catholic High School, we are committed to creating an environment where every pupil has the opportunity to succeed. One of the new features we are introducing is to ensure that we communicate regularly with you on what your child will be learning so that you can partner with us to support your child to become the best they can be.
What we would like from you:
We would like you to open the curriculum maps for your child’s year group and ask them questions about what they are learning. For example, you could ask Year 7 pupils:
∙ What are you studying in Science?
∙ Show me what you are doing in Maths
Please find attached the links to our curriculum maps below.

Supporting your child at home:
Research and experience have shown that pupils thrive in environments where expectations are clear, consistent, and reinforced by the adults around them.
To this end, we would like you to support your child to establish good habits of study. Please ensure they have a dedicated space and are completing work at a suitable time of the day.
Check to ensure they are completing their homework and encourage them to read. We believe that when pupils see a united front from the adults in their lives, it fosters a sense of security and stability that is conducive to learning.
We would like to thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child’s education. Together, we can create consistent and effective learning opportunities that enable all pupils to reach their full potential.
Yours sincerely
