CHS February Update
February 2, 2022
Good morning, Hawks!
Welcome to February!
We are due to have a few cold weather days ahead of us. Las Cruces Public Schools, in order to be proactive, has designated tomorrow to be a remote learning day. Each teacher will be available to students for the first 20 minutes during their designated class time via Zoom. It does not need to be a synchronous learning day, however, teachers will make themselves available for any work that was assigned via Canvas.
Competition Season
Spring semester is competition season for most of our activities, as you will see in the list of February events. We are excited that many students are actively involved in sports and activities. Please ensure that your students follow up with teachers to make sure they are completing the work they missed while they are out.
STUDENTS WORKING REMOTELY
Remote learning is reserved for those students who are on Covid safety protocol. We are not allowed to mark them as RL because that is the documentation the state is using for Covid tracing. We cannot, however, keep parents from keeping their child at home for precautionary measures. Since we are in face-to-face learning, parents must write a parent note to excuse the absences of their child and send it to Nancy. nmartinez3@lcps.net
It is the student responsibility to contact the teachers and get all the work they are missing through Canvas. Teachers still have the option to require students to come to test in person or do any lab or other assignments in person.
Next Steps
We begin conversations with our students on classes they would like to take next year. Please know that next steps registration is in February, and it is critical that students register for the classes they are interested in as changing classes after the fact can be difficult. Parents and students are asked to reach out to their advisory teachers to schedule an appointment to discuss next year.

CHS Spring 2022 Attendance Plan
With all of us having adjustment pains due to the pandemic these last couple years, we have been a little bit lenient on attendance. Now that we are back to in person learning, we are implementing our unexcused absence -NC (no credit) plan. Please click on the link below to watch a short video regarding our attendance plan. When I talk about the 9 absences referenced in the video, I am talking about unexcused absences only. Parent note, Dr. note, RL (remote learning) does not count towards the 9 unexcused absences.
