Our District has created the SCS Responsible Restart Comprehensive Guide - one document in one location outlining our District’s policies and procedures. This document should be used as a guide, allowing you to quickly find answers to your questions. The guide can also be found at www.strongnet.org/restart.
As we have seen throughout the pandemic, factors can change on a daily basis and this Guide will remain adjustable and flexible to respond to state and local health guidelines.
JOIN THE STRONGSVILLE SPIRIT SQUAD - OPEN TO INCOMING 9TH-12TH GRADERS!
Attention all incoming 9-12th graders - Strongsville High School is starting a Spirit Squad! This team is an inclusive cheerleading team that will be open to students who identify as having a disability, and those who do not. Our goal is to work to cultivate school spirit, create a culture of inclusiveness, and allow students to work together to have fun while building relationships. This team is open to everyone, no matter what your cheer experience is or your background! A virtual informational meeting will be held on April 14th at 6pm for anyone who is interested. DECA STUDENTS ADVANCE TO NATIONAL COMPETITION
Strongsville High School DECA students recently competed in the state competition, with qualifying for the national competition on the line. DECA is the only national student organization operating in the nation’s schools to attract young people to careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, management, and entrepreneurship. The top 5 individuals and top 4 teams in each category qualified for the national competition, which will be held virtually this month. Congratulations to the 15 SHS students who qualified and will be representing Strongsville High School in the national competition:

This year’s “State of the Schools” highlights the ways our District has broken through barriers during this very challenging year and the various ways we are developing our students into “Model Mustangs.”
MUSTANG SPOTLIGHT - MRS. AMY HOFMANN, SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST FOR SCS
Mrs. Amy Hofmann has worked in our District for 19 years. Mrs. Hofmann is our school psychologist for the Early Learning Preschool and Strongsville Middle School. She spent her entire K-12 years in our community and is a proud graduate of Strongsville High School. “I had a wonderful experience as a student in the District and am thrilled to give back to the community I grew up in,” said Mrs. Hofmann. She also earned her undergraduate degree from Case Western Reserve University and graduate degree from John Carroll University.
“I love working with students to help them better understand themselves and their learning, and seeing them capitalize on their strengths and succeed. I also love collaborating with staff and students to increase learning and emotional awareness. I especially enjoy getting to know students when they are just starting school and then being able to see them grow on into middle school. I am so honored to be a part of such a dedicated and caring staff at Strongsville City Schools.”

MUSTANG BASKETBALL STUDENT-ATHLETES REAGAN BASS & MACKENZIE SCHULZ EARN ALL-OHIO HONORS
Congratulations to SHS Mustang Basketball student-athletes Reagan Bass (Senior) and Mackenzie Schulz (Sophomore) for being named to the All-Ohio Division I Girls Basketball team. Reagan was named to the first team and is the all-time leader in points scored for the Lady Mustangs Basketball program. She will be continuing her academic and athletic career next year at the University of Akron. Mackenzie was an honorable mention and averaged 14.5 points per game this season.

Looking for an adventure over Spring Break? Families are encouraged to take part in the first ever Choose-Your-Own Adventure Literacy Activity. Through this interactive event, you will be transported to Captain Black Beard's pirate ship! While on the ship, you will search for treasure, solve mysteries, and take on exciting challenges-- all while trying to escape the ship with Captain Black Beard's gold! Completing these tasks will require bravery, resilience, and your very best literacy skills. Through reading, writing, and a bit of luck, you may just leave Black Beard's ship with his precious treasure. Just be careful-- one wrong step may lead to you walking the plank!

SHS COLOR GUARD AUDITIONS
Auditions for the 2021 SHS Color Guard are coming soon and open to interested students currently in 8th - 11th grade. The SHS Color Guard performs in the fall with the Marching Mustangs. Auditions will be held in the SHS Main Gymnasium from 3pm - 5pm April 12-15 and April 19-21. Applicants must pre register with Mrs. Stroup (mstroup@scsmustangs.org) prior to April 12. Strongsville City Schools is now hiring motivated, energetic, part-time professional substitute school bus drivers. This position features great pay ($16.19 per hour), flexible hours, no holidays, and is very rewarding. Requires a CDL Class B, with SP endorsement - TRAINING IS AVAILABLE!

Art Contest for Elementary School Students
Attention Elementary School Students! Have you ever thought about your favorite things in Strongsville? Strongsville Women’s League is holding an art contest for Strongsville residents in K-5th grade. Whether you’re in school, learning remotely, or home schooled, just create an image to answer ”I Know I’m In Strongsville When I See . . . “ (person, place, or thing). Entries will be accepted between March 15 - April 15 and can be dropped off in the main office at any of the five elementary schools. Strongsville Safety Village
Safety Village is a Strongsville Police Event designed to provide most of the same information delivered in Safety Town to the children of Strongsville that did not have a chance to attend Safety Town last year pre-kindergarten due to the Pandemic. Registration for Strongsville Safety Town opens on Thursday, April 1 for Strongsville residents and/or those who attend a Strongsville school and will be starting Kindergarten in the fall. Connecting for Kids (CFK) provides education and support to families who have concerns about their child. We serve all families, including those children with and without formal diagnoses. Computer Classes
Cuyahoga County Public Library offers computer classes for beginners to advanced. Classes are currently being held VIRTUALLY using the program Screenleap which requires a web browser and an internet connection. There is no additional software to download. Google Chrome is the recommended browser. A valid email address is required for registration. Registrants will receive an email with a link to join the class at least an hour before the start time. Incarcerated teen Quan Banks writes letters to Justyce McCallister, with whom he bonded years before over family issues, about his experiences in the American juvenile justice system.

As American material culture becomes ever more present, people start to wonder what their family's possessions may be worth. What may hold sentimental value to one might hold no historical value to another. This talk will discuss how museum curators and collections managers decide what does and does not get preserved and the thoughts and issues that surround it. Attention millennials we're going VIRTUAL! Are you looking for something fun and different to do with your friends? How about a book club with a twist? Discuss & Design (Millennial Book Discussion) has been going on at the Strongsville Branch for over a year. We meet bimonthly, alternating between children's, teen, and adult books. We discuss the assigned book and design something that complements the title, subject, or book cover. Maker kits will be available as a part of this program and can be mailed to a branch near you for pick up! A millennial is defined as anyone born between 1981 and 1996. Our next discussion will be on All the Days Past, All the Days to Come by Mildred Taylor.

Have you ever thought about recording your own music, making a video, digitizing memories and more? The Strongsville Library is home to both Audio and Video Recording studios that can help you do just that! You must go through an orientation in order to use the spaces. During the COVID-19 pandemic these orientations will be held VIRTUALLY ONLY. We will offer orientations on both rooms, however, only the Video Studio is open during this time. The Audio Studio orientation begins at 9:30a.m. and the Video Studio orientation follows immediately after.
