What's Happening in Our School!
A Word From Mr. Quillen
PES Family,
Here are some effective strategies to assist your child in their math learning journey:
1. Be Patient and Supportive:
Every child learns at their own pace. It’s important to remain patient and offer encouragement, especially when they face challenges. Instead of providing direct answers, guide them with questions that lead to discovery and understanding.
2. Incorporate Math into Daily Activities:
Integrate math into everyday routines. Cooking can provide practical experiences with measurements, while shopping allows for lessons in budgeting and estimation.
3. Encourage Problem Solving Skills:
Promote critical thinking by presenting your child with puzzles and challenges. Ask them to explain their reasoning as they work through problems.
4. Set a Regular Study Routine:
Create a quiet, dedicated study space, free from distractions.
5. Communicate with Teachers:
Stay in touch with your child’s teacher to understand their curriculum and specific areas where your child may need additional support.
By actively engaging with your child’s math education and creating a supportive learning environment, you can help them develop essential skills and a positive attitude toward math. Remember, the goal is not just to solve problems, but to foster a lifelong love of learning. With patience, creativity, and encouragement, you can make math an enjoyable and rewarding experience for your child.

Teacher of the Month
Beka Collins
Beka Collins is a third grade teacher at Pioneer Elementary School.
Mrs. Collins is in her 23rd year of teaching, having previously taught at Brownsburg Schools where she was a kindergarten and first grade teacher. She is now in her 3rd year at Pioneer.
Mrs. Collins is thrilled to be working in the district from where she graduated, as well as teaching in the same classroom where she spent her third grade year as a student. Mrs. Collins loves how close the community at Pioneer is and how everyone is connected with friends and family.
She wants her students to grow their self-confidence so that they feel like they can accomplish even the most difficult tasks.
“I love my job and making students feel special by building meaningful relationships within my classroom community,” she said. Students appreciate Mrs. Collins because she has high expectations and works very hard to make each one of them feel valued.
Colder Weather Approaching!
As it gets colder outside, there will be days that students MUST have sleeves or a coat to go outside. It is recommended to keep an extra sweatshirt or coat at school just in case!
The Handbook States:
If the temperatures at the time of recess are below 50 degrees (including wind chill) the students will need to wear a coat outside for recess. If the temperatures at the time of recess are between 50 and 60 degrees (including wind chill) the students will need to wear a sweatshirt or coat to go outside. If the temperatures at the time of recess are above 60 degrees (including wind chill) then the students may choose whether or not to wear a coat or sweatshirt outside for recess.
