LSNHS Counseling Newsletter
SEPTEMBER 2024
Ms. Rebecca Steele
Hello LSN Students and Parents/Guardians,
Your LSN Counseling Department would like to welcome you back as we begin the 2024-25 academic year. We hope you had a fun and restful summer and are looking forward to the new school year. To all of the freshmen and new students in the building, welcome to Lee's Summit North!
Lee's Summit North counselors are looking forward to working with you throughout the year. As a reminder, school counselors are available to assist with academics and academic planning, post-secondary goals and research, and are also happy to offer social and emotional support to students. While we do not provide therapy, we are equipped to provide recommendations for local community resources should that be something you are seeking for your family.
Counselors will also be visiting classrooms this fall to provide information about career and post-secondary planning, beginning with seniors in mid-September, sophomores in late September, and juniors in early October. This year, we transitioned from Naviance to a new tool called SchooLinks to help with our post-secondary planning and research. We will be introducing this program in Mentoring and through those counselor classroom presentations this fall.
Please find a breakdown of counselors and their alphabets (by last name) below and feel free to reach out to your counselors (or your child's counselor) at any time with questions or concerns:
A-Co - Ms. Rebecca Steele (rebecca.steele@lsr7.net)
Cr-He - Ms. Justene Smith (justene.smith@lsr7.net)
Hi-Mc - Mr. John Stone (john.stone@lsr7.net)
Me-Se - Ms. Laura Hillbrand (laura.hillbrand@lsr7.net)
Sh-Z - Ms. Dana Green (dana.green@lsr7.net)
Mental Health Therapist - Ms. Tina Rambo-Faulkner (tina.faulkner@lsr7.net)
As a reminder to all students and parents/guardians, all LSR7 students must complete 10 hours of community service to graduate. Please complete these hours as soon as possible, particularly if you are a senior that has not done so. To see a list of possible community service opportunities and also view what counts/does not count for community service, please click here. Students may pick up the community service log (to record hours) in the counseling office.
Seniors and senior parents/guardians - do you have questions about scholarships and/or sending your high school transcript to colleges? Please see below for resources to direct you to help with these two common questions or reach out to LSN College/Scholarship Coordinator, Ms. Rocel Wright (rocel.wright@lsr7.net). This year, we will be introducing a new resource called SchooLinks for transcript requests and post-secondary research. More info to come to seniors in the next few weeks!
Thank you for your continued partnership with the LSN Counseling Department. Should you have any questions or need more information, don't hesitate to reach out. Let's have a great year, Broncos!
