Message from Principal Haugens
Dear DuJardin Families,
What a great week of #Leading & #Learning at DuJardin Elementary School. We welcomed our kindergarten students to school on Monday and they had a fantastic first week of school. Mrs. Lents and I conducted handbook talks with first - fifth grade this past Tuesday. Please take a few moments to review the handbook talk presentation. Kindergarten students will receive the handbook talks on Friday.
Next week, teachers will begin to administer the Fall MAP Assessment to all students. The MAP assessment provides valuable information regarding student achievement levels in math and reading. Fall MAP results will be shared with parents towards the end of the month. Teachers use the MAP data to better understand the academic needs of the students in their classroom. We also use results from the MAP assessment to identify students for math & reading supports. If you have further questions about the MAP assessment, please reach out to the classroom teacher or click here to visit the NWEA MAP Assessment Family page. Besides the MAP assessment, students will also be assessed on Reading & Numeracy Fluency using the AIMSWeb Assessment. Please refer to classroom communication for specific testing dates & times.

Student Lunches: Students should bring their lunch in the morning to school each day. Dropping off lunches from restaurants (ie- McDonald's, Wendy's, Panera, etc.) as well as using food delivery services to drop off food (ie -GrubHub, Door Dash) is not allowed. Safety is our number one priority and we would like to limit visitors.
Go Orange: During the month of September, we will ask students to donate canned
goods or non-perishable food items. There will be a box in the front lobby for students to
Place food items. DuJardin will also celebrate “GO ORANGE” day on Friday, September 15th. Students will be asked to wear orange to raise awareness about hunger. Click here to view the Go Orange Flyer

Hot Lunch News
Hot Lunch will begin the week of September 18. We will be using Doctor Dogs again. We will let you know when the system is open for ordering. For now, you can log into the system here: https://doctordogs.h1.hotlunchonline.net/ and update your student's teacher. Go to Student, Action, edit and update their teacher. If their teacher is not updated there will be confusion during lunch distribution. Want to help distribute hot lunch? It only takes an hour of time and your students love to see you there! We need parent participation to keep our hot lunch program running. Sign-up here: https://signup.com/go/DCRcnbc
Classroom Holiday Parties
Sign-up to help at your student's holiday parties will look different this year. There will be an email with a sign-up website link sent out next Thursday afternoon. There will be 6 slots available for each holiday party. Each party will have a slot for a “party organizer” who will be responsible for working with the other 5 party volunteers. You will only be able to sign up for one party in each classroom that your child is in. This will allow everyone to have a better chance at attending one of their students’ parties.

Required Health Forms:
- Kindergarten: Physical, Dental, & Vision
- 2nd Grade: Dental
- Health Office Website
Student Daily Medication:
If your student requires daily medication or emergency medication, please bring in a new order from the doctors office. All food action plans and asthma action plans need to be renewed for the new school year, last year's orders cannot and will not be used. All forms can be found on the district website under health office.
Student Needs:
Please inform the nurse of any allergies or sensitivities to foods, medications, and environmental allergens. If there are any pertinent details of your students' health that you feel the nurse needs to know, please reach out and discuss this with the school nurse. This information can be helpful to better support your student throughout the day, if certain situations arise.
About Your Student’s Medication:
The district's medication administration policy mandates that all medication to be administered at school requires an MD order, this includes over-the-counter medications. Students may NOT keep over-the-counter meds in their backpacks or in their lockers--including cough drops, Advil, etc. This is an important safety concern! Please review the policy included in the registration process.
If your student requires an inhaler, Epi-Pen, or any oral medication, please obtain the medication form and appropriate health care plan from your physician when your child has their exam. Forms may also be obtained on the district website.
Excused Physical Education Class:
Please note that all PE excuses need to be sent to the Nurse's Office. A parent may excuse a student from PE for up to 3 days. (consecutively) Thereafter, a Doctor's note is required.
