North Syracuse Central School District's weekly e-news
Issue #67 | June 3, 2022
Hello North Syracuse Central School District Parents, Guardians, Teachers and Staff,
Once again it has been an incredibly busy (but wonderful) week in the NSCSD. I actually have two pictures that I want to share with you as part of my column. This week I had the pleasure of being a guest/mystery reader at two elementary schools. On Wednesday, I was invited by Mrs. Jackie Donegan to be a "mystery" reader for her second grade class at KWS Bear Road Elementary School as the letter "M" came into their classroom curriculum. I alway find it interesting how our clever teachers incorporate unique ideas into their lessons to keep things fresh for their students. Thank you to Mrs. Donegan and Mrs. Moran for making me a part of your students' learning experience.
The conversation I'd like to talk about this week is one that happened while I was at Bear Road but it wasn't with a teacher or student; it was with an Deputy Martin of the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office. If you have an elementary student in the District, you already know that we now have law enforcement officers stationed at all of our elementary schools and the North Syracuse Early Education Program for the remainder of the school year. I can't begin to tell you how grateful we are to both the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office and the Cicero Police Department for their additional support. The peace of mind their presence provides our students, staff and families is invaluable.
As I took time to talk with Deputy Martin, I learned the interesting fact that he had actually been a student at KWS Bear Road many years ago and had gone through NSCSD schools to graduate from C-NS. This connection struck me as particularly profound in light of the tumultuous state of relations in our world. One of our former students came back and is now protecting the young people in his community. It felt like a full-circle moment. We truly are a great community and we take care of each other. Once again, I'm proud to be a member of this community and am honored to be at the helm of this amazing District.
Sincerely,
Daniel D. Bowles, Superintendent of Schools

NSCSD Elementary Students Learn From Gizmo

The AFSP has donated 10 books, Gizmo’s Pawesome Guide to Mental Health, to our district so that each elementary school, along with the North Syracuse Early Education Program, now has a copy of the book.
