KCS Virtual Program
September 2024 Newsletter
From the Desk of Dr. Harper...
September is here, and just like a football team gearing up for the big game, it’s time for us to hit the ground running! The first quarter is underway, and every play counts as we work toward our academic goals. Whether you’re tackling tough virtual assignments or scoring touchdowns on your exams, remember that the effort you put in now sets the tone for the rest of the year.
In football, it’s all about teamwork, strategy, and perseverance—and the same goes for your time in the virtual program. Stay focused, lean on your virtual coach and teachers when you need support, and keep pushing toward the end zone. Each course, each lesson is a chance to move the chains and get closer to completing your courses!

Advice From Ami
Hello All! My name is Ami Campbell and I am the new school counselor for the KCS Virtual Program. This is my 17th year working as a school counselor. I have worked in elementary, middle, and high school in my career. I am excited to blaze the trail of a counselor for the virtual program. I have been married to my husband Tim for 22 years. He is the youth pastor of a Baptist church in Charleston. We have two children, one of which is in the KCS Virtual Program. We have an adorable pomsky named Skye. I didn't move far from my hometown of South Charleston. In fact, my husband and I built a house right next door to my parents!
Each newsletter will have some school counseling information. This month, I have scholarship search engines for seniors and a free resource for families to support student mental health. Please see both below:
Seniors, below I have two FREE websites for you to search for college scholarships. Both sites are free to use. Just make an account and you can search for scholarships.
In partnership with the WVDE and the Cook Center for Human Connection, KCS is offering a new resource to families, educators, caregivers and others to support student mental health. ParentGuidance.org, a 24/7 online platform, assists those who care for children to address and elevate mental health wellness and self-care. These tools are designed to enhance the human connections vital for school communities to thrive.
In Kanawha County and across West Virginia, there is now free access to an array of tools including:
- Regular one-on-one parent coaching with cognitive behavioral health coaches
- On-demand parenting sessions taught by licensed therapists
- “Ask a Therapist,” a frequently updated question-and-answer forum
