What's Happening in February?
Dr. Isett's Weekly Message
Week of February 3rd, 2025
Greetings Colts Families and Community,
This past week, we had the honor of celebrating our students who achieved Honor Roll status! It was a wonderful evening dedicated to recognizing our Colts' hard work, perseverance, and academic success in Semester 1. This achievement is not just a reflection of our students' dedication but also a testament to the unwavering support, encouragement, and commitment of our parents and families. Thank you for being an essential part of their journey!
Looking ahead, this week is all about planning and preparing for the future:
📌 Monday: Roosevelt High School will host an 8th Grade Family Informational Night to help students and families prepare for the transition to high school.
📌 Thursday: We are excited to welcome 6th grade students for a special visit, where they will explore the incredible programs, clubs, and activities River Heights has to offer.
📌 7th Grade Course Selections: Our current 7th graders will begin selecting their courses for next year in the coming weeks. More details will be shared as those dates approach.
Thank you, families, for your continued partnership and support.
Warm regards,
Eva Isett, Ed. D.
Principal
New Cell Phone Policy
Starting February 18th
Starting February 18th, we will be implementing an updated cell phone and electronic device policy to support a focused and engaging learning environment. Under this new policy, all cell phones and electronic devices must be turned off and kept away for the entire school day. While students may bring their phones to school, they must remain off and stored in their backpacks during instructional hours, including lunch and passing periods.
Currently, students have been allowed to use their devices during lunch and before school, but we have found that reducing cell phone use during the day will help minimize distractions, improve peer interactions, and promote academic success.
We appreciate your partnership in reinforcing this expectation at home and helping us create a learning-focused, socially connected, and distraction-free school environment. Thank you for your continued support!
Honoring and Celebrating the Contributions of African-Americans
At River Heights, we proudly honor and celebrate Black History Month by recognizing the profound contributions of African Americans throughout history. Each morning, our students will hear a special message highlighting the achievements of influential Black historical figures. Additionally, our hallway bulletin boards will showcase important moments, leaders, and innovations that have shaped our world.
We look forward to engaging our students in meaningful learning experiences that celebrate diversity, history, and the power of perseverance.

RHIS Counseling
Week of the school counselor
This week, we are thrilled to celebrate School Counselor Appreciation Week and recognize the incredible impact our counselors have on the academic, social, and emotional well-being of our Colts.
Whether they are meeting one-on-one with students, leading group sessions, or analyzing data to provide the best support, Mrs. B and Mrs. Lloyd are always there to guide, encourage, and uplift our students. Their dedication, compassion, and commitment make a difference in the lives of so many.
Please join me in expressing our heartfelt appreciation for our remarkable counseling team! We 💚 you, Mrs. B and Mrs. Lloyd!
A message from our counseling team
We hosted another successful Backpack Clean-Out event! This time, we partnered with AVID to help students get organized. Participants not only received guidance on organization but also earned a PBIS point, a fidget, and a chance to win lunch through our raffle.
Remember, we host Backpack Clean-Out on the last Wednesday of every month, so please encourage your students to attend!
We know this is an exciting time for our 8th-grade students as they prepare for high school! If your student needs help with their course selection sheet or has questions, please submit a counseling referral.
Lastly, remind them to check their Google Classroom for the latest counseling updates and important information.

School Safety & Security
See something, say something
At River Heights, the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and community are our top priority. Students, if you witness or experience bullying, threats, or suspicious behavior, report it to a trusted adult. Parents, stay engaged by talking to your children about their school experiences, monitoring online activities, and reporting concerns.
Together, we can ensure our school remains a safe, secure, and supportive environment for everyone. Thank you for your continued vigilance and partnership in this effort.
Witness Statement
We take allegations of bullying and harassment seriously. Please have your student complete a witness statement if they have something to report. If it is an urgent matter, please call the front office at (951) 738-2155, if it is an emergency, please call 911.
