We are running full steam ahead to November, but there are still some exciting things going on for the end of this month!

Our annual Spooktacular Carnival is coming up this Friday, October 27th. This is a fun family event with games, prizes, and the hotly anticipated Cake Walk! Students, parents and siblings are allowed to wear costumes to this event, but please see the guidelines below for appropriate family-friendly costumes!

I know many of our students are already planning for Halloween, so just a reminder, students are allowed to wear costumes to school on Tuesday, October 31st, but costumes must be 'school friendly'. Here are some general guidelines:

• No props
  
• No masks
  
• No scary or gory costumes (blood, wounds, etc.)
  
• Outfits should not significantly be disruptive to the learning process
  
• No dressing as another race, ethnicity or culture
  

Thank you for helping make this a fun day for all of our students.

If you are interested in helping out some of our wonderful WillaG students who occasionally need a new pair of shoes, a jacket, backpack or other clothing item, please join our WillaG Clothes Closet online group!

When we have a need for specific items of clothing, we'll send out an email to our group to ask for donations. The email will include the item needed, size, gender & color preference. If you have gently used items at home that could fill our 'order' or if you want to purchase new items, you can simply email the office and let us know that you'd like to help!

Monday November 6th is Willagillespie’s annual school health screening. Lane County Dental Prevention will do an oral/dental health screening for all students and fluoride varnish application for those that returned the yellow permission form sent home earlier in the year.

The Oregon Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation will perform vision SPOT checks for all Kindergarten through 3rd grade students. If your student in these grades wears glasses or contacts, please have them bring those to school and wear them for the k-3 vision screening.

A white ½ sheet form will come home in homework folders about 2 weeks after the clinic with your student’s results.

If you do not want your student to be screened for dental, vision, or both, please let me know at least two school days before the screening. Please include the specific screening you are opting your child out of and the reason (religious or have submitted proof of vision/dental care previously to the school).

4J Welcome Center will once again be hosting and collaborating with Toys for Tots this year to be a satellite distribution site for all 4J families with students from ages 0-13yrs old.

Deadline: Nov 24, no applications will be accepted after this date.
