GRADUATION FOR THE CLASS OF 2024
It is with great excitement that we would like to share the date, time, and location of the CHS Graduation Ceremony for the Class of 2024. As many of you have witnessed and experienced, our current grounds and school are under a tremendous amount of stress and transition due to the construction and renovation of Christiansburg High School. We have been given a tremendous opportunity by MCPS and Virginia Tech to hold our 2024 graduation ceremony at Cassell Coliseum on the Virginia Tech campus.
The date of graduation will be on Saturday, May 18 at 11:30 am. We realize the change in venue is a shift from our normal graduation practices, but due to our current status at CHS, this will allow us to have unlimited admittance of family members and friends for our graduates, significant parking opportunities, and a space that will not be affected by the change if inclement weather should arise.
In the coming weeks, we will provide additional specific details related to the graduation ceremony for the Class of 2024. We understand there will be questions related to the venue and the day of the ceremony. We will work to adequately answer those questions and ensure we have a positive, impactful, and celebratory day for the Class of 2024!

APPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR AT SPORTING EVENTS
RESPECTFUL - RESPONSIBLE - CONNECTED
As we prepare to enter the Spring sports season, it is imperative that WE (parents, athletes, coaches, students, and spectators) work to embody and model respectfulness and sportsmanship when participating and spectating sports events at both our home and away matches.
Unfortunately, there have been occurrences at sporting events in the local area where officials have been approached, degraded, and treated in a disrespectful manner while working to officiate games and contests. Recently, the number of officials from all sports and associations has decreased significantly. In a time when officials are short in numbers and being asked to cover additional games throughout a week, it is important to make the best effort to support and respect the responsibility they have chosen to take on.
As we navigate the Spring sports season, some of our officials associations have notified us that if an official is confronted by an irate parent before, during, or after a game, that association may choose to not officiate any of our school's home or away games for a period of (14) days. Should this type of behavior continue, the association may choose to no longer officiate any of our contests.
Fortunately, we have not had issues of this magnitude at CHS and it would be my hope that the fans of CHS will continue to set an exemplary example for appropriate behavior at sporting events, regardless of the opposing fans, calls on the field, or behavior of the opposing teams. As we continually work to be the best version of ourselves and model sportsmanlike behavior, we not only set a high standard for others to follow, but we also set an extraordinary and necessary example for our student athletes and youth!
STUDENT PARKING
We had hoped we may more available spaces during the Spring semester, due to some of students completing early graduation, but that was not the case. We could still have some spaces become available as we finish the year, but we are not certain of when and how many may become available.
If your junior or senior student would like to be put on a waiting list for a space, they will need to turn in the parking agreement paperwork, provide a copy of their driver's license, and pay for the parking fee of $7.00.
We apologize for this inconvenience, but the renovation and construction project have adversely affected our amount of parking spaces that are available.
C'BURG STRAND PYRAMID CONCERT
CHS will be hosting the C'burg Strand Pyramid Concert to highlight the talents of our students in grades K-12 on Thursday, March 14.
Families can enter the CHS building by utilizing the Main Entrance (Door #9) or the Loading Dock Entrance (Door #30). We look forward to seeing you there!
DINNER THEATRE - "RUMORS"
The CHS Theatre and Culinary Arts departments are excited for our collaboration on our next DINNER THEATRE EXPERIENCE! The event will be held at CHS Thursday, March 21 at 6pm, Friday, March 22 at 6pm, Saturday, March 23 at 1pm and 6pm. Your $20 ticket includes the two-act show and a delicious Italian dinner.
The show is Rumors, a hilarious comedy that will keep you laughing from start to finish. The story: At a large suburban townhouse, the Deputy Mayor of New York has just shot himself. Though it's only a flesh wound, Charlie Brock's self-inflicted injury sets off a series of events causing four couples to experience a severe attack of farce. As the confusions and miscommunications mount, the evening spins off into classic farcical hilarity that only playwright Neil Simon could concoct! (Note that the play contains mature language and subject matter most suitable for ages 12 and up.)
Our dinner menu will include garden salad, pasta, freshly made marinara sauce, meatballs, roasted vegetables, a variety of breads, and assorted beverages. Desserts featuring a cheesecake station will be served at intermission. (If you have particular dietary needs, please don't hesitate to contact me via email with details.)
Make your reservations by clicking this link: Dinner Theatre reservations. We will contact you to confirm your reservations and arrange payment. Should you have questions, please contact theatre director Makala Witten at mwitten@mcps.org or call CHS at 540-382-5178.
