Freshmen Explore the Industrial & Engineering Tech Academy!
Students in Academy Exploration classes completed the Industrial & Engineering Tech Academy this past week and were able to experience the Engineering, Drafting, Construction & Automotive Pathways!
- Engineering Pathway: Students learned about digital electronics with Mr. Carlton! Students were tasked with the problem of following a blueprint and were given supplies to create a successful digital circuit board.
- Drafting Pathway: Students were led by Mr. Carpenter with a hands on lesson about designing models and blueprints!
- Construction Pathway: Students were led by Mr. Trigg through the construction classrooms and shop to learn about the different tools and machines available to students. Advanced construction students spoke with students about the process of the play houses being built.
Students that chose this Academy as their top interest also traveled to OTC in Springfield for the ExploreOTC event where they split into groups of automotive, engineering/drafting & construction! OTC provided hands on experiences for these students to learn more about these fields of study. Students finished the day with a trip to Buxton, Kubik, Dodd to learn about the culmination of how engineers, architects, draftsmen, and construction workers work together to achieve a common goal.
🧵Highlights from the Fashion & Design Pathway! 👜
- Students in Fashion Design and Construction have been busy learning how to do Fashion Croqui drawings which involves a lot of math and measurements to create proportional body sketches.
- After completion of the Croqui unit, students will learn about Garment Construction and sewing using patterns. To refresh the students on sewing machine operations, they were able to make microwave corn bags out of flannel scraps!
- Advanced Creative Sewing students have been busy sewing lots of fun and useful projects. The class started with a basic tote bag that trains them to use the serger and each included a personalized design using the Cricut vinyl cutting machine.
- Interior Design is partnering with North Elementary's Keisha Wurgler to redesign a catch-all lunch area for teachers into a collaborative workspace with a relaxing vibe. The ID class was able to tour the space and ask questions of our "client." Back in the classroom, students are creating vision boards that encompass the look our client is going for.
- Fashion Merchandising students are learning about the Fashion Cycle and Target Markets and have been busy creating a plan for a product prototype. While each waits for their supplies to arrive they are busy learning equipment such as the longarm quilting machine, circular knitting machine, embroidery machine and Cricut.
Caution: Construction In Progress! 🚧
👷Mr. Trigg's Construction classes have been hard at work building playhouses in the shop!
Through the process, students will add siding, a roof, porch, and painting the structure.
