Monroe Memo
March, 2024
A Message From Mr. Callen!
The beginning of March is always an exciting time of the school year! With longer days and more sunlight comes an opportunity for us to reflect on where we have been. Our students have really come a long way this year! They have increased their capacity to accomplish academic work, demonstrated social-emotional growth, and have been resilient amidst changes and new opportunities. As we head into spring break at the end of this month, it will be important that we are vigilant in supporting our students in continuing to reach their potential.
Standard Response Protocol of the Month- "Lock Down"
In the month of March students and staff will be practicing a "Lockdown" drill. A "Lockdown" is called when there is a threat or hazard inside the school building. The Lockdown Action demands locking interior doors, moving occupants out of the line of sight of corridor windows, turning off lights to make the room seem unoccupied, and having occupants maintain silence. Mr. Bertsche and Mr. Callen will be reviewing the procedure with students prior to the drill being called to ensure confidence and calmness in the students.
SFA
March 2024
Success for All (SFA) is founded on cooperative learning.
What is cooperative learning?
Cooperative learning is an instructional method in which students work in partnerships and small groups to accomplish a common learning goal with the guidance of the teacher. Students benefit from the constant coaching, encouragement, and feedback of their peers.
What does cooperative learning look like at Monroe?
Partnerships help and encourage each other.
A team of kindergarten students worked together to complete a task of creating a transportation system.
4th and 5th graders are engaging in a team discussion, ensuring everyone participates.
1st graders practice Active Listening when the teacher and classmates speak.
Thank you for ALL you continue to do to support your child’s success.
As always, please reach out as any questions or concerns may arise!
