About Don Tate
Don Tate is a self taught illustrator and author. He has illustrated numerous critically acclaimed books for children, including Ron's Big Mission (Dutton, 2009); She Loved Baseball: The Effa Manley Story (HarperCollins, 2010); Duke Ellington's Nutcracker Suite (Charlesbridge, 2011). And he is currently illustrating The Cart (Charlesbridge) for the beloved Eve Bunting.
This year, Don made his debut as an author. It Jes' Happened: When Bill Traylor Started to Draw, is a Lee & Low Books New Voices honor winner, and has already garnered three starred reviews from Kirkus, School Library Journal, and Booklist.
Don lives in Austin, Texas, where regularly speaks at elementary schools, reading and writing conferences.
