Operations Update
Bus Information for Parents
Remember that instructional staff is responsible for communicating beginning of year transportation information to parents. Links to school-specific lists were sent to principals and secretaries. Please ensure that parents have received their bus information for the start of school and remind them that the bus may run a little behind schedule the first few days.
Bus Monitor Refresher Training
As of Friday 8/23 over 200 staff have not completed this training.
All instructional staff who have been previously bus monitor trained must complete the online refresher course annually. This online refresher DOES NOT take the place of the required initial face-to-face bus monitor training conducted by the JCPS Transportation department. The refresher must be completed by 4:00pm on Thursday, August 22nd. You may complete the refresher on Blackboard according to the instructions below:
You can access BBLearn at this link:
https://jcpsonline.blackboard.com/webapps/portal/execute/tabs/tabAction?tab_tab_group_id=_91_1
Or you can simply go to the JCPS home page, select the “Employees” Menu, then “Log-ins”, and then “JCPS Online (BBLearn)”.
Staff should log in with their district ID. If you’ve never logged into Blackboard before, your password is “change.me”. If you have logged into Blackboard previously, your password is whatever you set it as when you first logged in. Blackboard does not connect to Active Directory, so the password does not update, therefore it will still be whatever you initially set it as.
We believe we have most staff enrolled at this time. Once you log in, you should see the course ECH Bus Monitoring Review 19-20 under your class list. If you don’t see the course under your class list, you can search for the course and self-enroll. If you have difficulty you can email Brent Stewart brent.stewart@jefferson.kyschools.us for help with enrolling.
Technology Issues
Any technology related issue (computers, printers, copiers, telephones, etc.) should be reported to the JCPS IT Help Desk at 485-3552, or by submitting a Landesk ticket at http://jcps.me/help

JCPS Language Services
The district offers a variety of resources and support for teachers, students, and families that speak other languages than English. The purpose of JCPS Language Services is to obtain language support. They help the district communicate effectively with English learners and their families in their native languages. Early Childhood teachers should use their services to support the work you do with students and families including screening and assessments (Brigance), home visit interpreting, and translating of important forms, letters, and information. JCPS language services may be accessed on the JCPS homepage by doing a search for “language” or by clicking this link: JCPS Language Services.

Home Visits
We have provided you with plenty of time to complete your initial home visits during the pre service window. You should follow all home visit guidelines and protocols including leaving a copy of your home visit log with your administrator prior to conducting any home visits. You can find all home visit procedures, protocols, forms, and tips in our Ready4K Sharepoint folder or by clicking here: JCPS Home Visit Resources
Back to School Resources:
Be sure to check out Ready4K for tons of resources to help you get ready for the new year. Here you will find our new calendars, curriculum maps, classroom charts, signs, labels and much more!
Updated Center Signs and Picture Schedule Charts
The center signs and picture schedule charts on Ready4K have been updated based on feedback from teachers. The center signs are now in WORD so that you can edit it to include the number of children that are allowed at each of your centers (ECERS-3 requirement). You may also add stickers or symbols to correspond to the number of children allowed in a particular center. The numbers on the signs are examples only and you may change to fit the individual needs of your classrooms. The picture schedule chart has also been updated to include Second Step and Brain Break. Print in color and laminate for durability.
Classroom Schedules Due to Instructional Coach before September 10
All teachers must submit their classroom schedules using the approved form before September 10th. All classroom schedules must follow our adopted schedule procedures and ECERS-3 guidelines. We will have our review by the Kentucky Department of Education this year and it is very important that schedules contain required components. Schedules not containing the required components will be returned for corrections. Forms and schedule procedures may be found on Ready4K.
My Big Little Adventure Program
JCPC Early Childhood is again partnering with the Kentucky Science Center to offer free learning resources for early childhood families. It is easy for parents to sign up for this awesome program. Your start up teacher boxes will contain a flyer and sign up sheet for each of your families. Please take these along with you on your first home visit and help your families sign up. Please collect and send any completed sign up sheets to Dawson Orman Early Childhood #037D to the attention of the Family Fun Day Committee. For more information about My Big Little Adventure visit their website at: http://www.mybiglittleadventure.org/

Employee Assistance Program
JCPS recognizes that employees' mental health and emotional health are as important to their job performance as physical health.
To provide support, JCPS has contracted with an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for employees and their family members at no cost to the employee. The EAP is a confidential, short-term counseling program offering traditional face-to-face or telephonic counseling services with a licensed therapist. To schedule an appointment, contact Human Development Company at (502) 589-(HELP) 4357.
