The Power of Words Project
There has been a nationwide increase in students engaging in unexpected behavior such as racial, anti-Semitism, and anti-Muslim remarks.
At D103 we are continuously addressing this issue through social-emotional lessons from early childhood through eighth-grade, emphasizing respect and kindness.
This month, Sprague will focus on the theme of “Words Have Power.” Through assemblies and classroom lessons, students will engage with the concept of treating everyone with kindness and respect, knowing how powerful words are, and making sure our words spread kindness, acceptance, and understanding. Parents are invited to participate in a home-school activity that celebrates the unique identities of each child at our school.
Here are some further readings if you wish to explore this topic further with your child. Please review these books to ensure you're comfortable and to prepare for any discussion you may feel is necessary to accompany the read-aloud.
