Principal Message
Dear École OLPH Families,
June is the month of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. To a modern mind, it might seem like an odd symbol - we see images of Jesus with a stylized heart against his chest. But it's an old, old symbol that communicates something. Specifically, it reminds us of God's love, of Christ's love eternal, saving, sacrificial love.
The heart symbolizes love, of course. There are also often thorns, sometimes a spear, to represent both the pain and sorrow God feels when we cause ourselves pain through sin and evil (whether against others or ourselves.) So, this month, let's reflect on, and give thanks for, the love of God.

Dear OLPH Families,
Friday, June 21, 2024, is National Indigenous Peoples Day.
National Indigenous Peoples Day is a day for all Canadians to recognize and celebrate the unique heritage, diverse cultures and outstanding contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. The Canadian Constitution recognizes these three groups as Aboriginal peoples, also known as Indigenous peoples.
Once again this year, the students and staff of École OLPH School will be spending National Indigenous Peoples Day participating in a variety of activities that we hope will further our appreciation of Indigenous cultures and contributions.
We would like to reach out to our OLPH community to ask for their support in making this day run smoothly. We are asking for volunteers to help run some of the activities, such as the preparation of bannock . We are also hoping to hear from our Indigenous community members who may like to share their knowledge and skills with us on that day.
If you are interested in helping out with the activities during National Indigenous Peoples Day, on Friday, June 21st, please email either Mme Miller or Mme Taylor.
Yours truly,
Mme Miller and Mme Taylor
Field Trip Fees
Dear Parents,
Fees collected for field trips include admission to facilities, transportation, facilitator instruction costs, and the purchase of supplies/equipment. Transportation costs are divided equally among all students in the class / group.
Therefore, students who are absent on the day of the field trip will not be reimbursed transportation fees. Admission and material fees will be reimbursed where venues/presenters do not charge the school for the absence of the student.

How to Report a Student Absence
Dear Parents,
Here are some easy instructions on "How to Report a Student Absence".
Submitting Upcoming Absences - PowerSchool
Please note: We do not subscribe to the APP, you must use the website https://eics.powerschool.com
When you log into your parent portal account, a list of all the students currently attached to your account will be listed across the top of the screen.
After choosing a student, the very first option on the left is the ability to enter/review upcoming absences.
When you click this link, a list of absences entered by parent accounts for the past 30 days will be shown. (This list does not include days when a student was absent but the absence was not entered by the parent - only absences entered through this system are displayed.)
After clicking the link, you can then choose whether to enter a single day or multi-day absence.
To enter an absence, provide the appropriate information for the following questions:
- The date of the absence (or the start/end date for a multi day absence).
- The reason for the absence (Flu-like Symptoms, Other Illness or Parental Excused).
- The absence type (Full Day, Late Arrival, Early Departure, Leave and Return).
- Note: If you choose a partial day absence, you will also be asked to provide an approximate arrival and/or departure time.
- A box for comments is available if you have further information you wish to share.
Early Pick Up
If you need to pick your child early for an appointment, please arrive 5 minutes early to allow time for the child to be called out of class. All students must check out at the office and exit through the front door.
Our Elk Island Catholic Schools IT department is continuing to work on implementing additional features, so keep an eye out in our Smores for future updates!
