Dear Franklin Families,
We will celebrate Halloween on Thursday, October 31st. Please review the information below to ensure a fun and stress-free celebration!
Costumes:
Students wear their costumes to school on Thursday, October 31st.
Costumes should be appropriate for school with no overly bloody or scary images.
Students should be able to use the bathroom independently.
They should also not have any weapons (knives, swords, guns, etc.) or masks at school
Parade:
The parade will begin at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday (weather permitting).
Students will exit out Door 1 (near LRC), walk east on Manor, around the circle drive, up the sidewalk along the side of the building, and reenter at Door 8 (4th Grade doors).
If you are viewing the parade, please keep the sidewalks clear. Please do not pass out anything (treats, trinkets) to students as they participate in the parade
Parent Party Volunteers:
Only parents assigned to help with classroom parties will be allowed in the building.
Parent volunteers must bring a driver’s license or state-issued identification to enter the building.
If you have not been added to our security system, feel free to stop by before Tuesday to run your identification through the system. This will allow us to minimize the lines before the party.
No younger siblings are allowed to attend the party.
If your family does not celebrate Halloween, please contact your child’s teacher directly. We provide an alternative space and non-Halloween activities for students during the Halloween parties and parade.
We are looking forward to a fabulous Halloween celebration!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kristin Williams
Important Health Deadline for Students in Kindergarten and those new to D64:
The state deadline for submitting proof of vaccination, physical exams, and eye exams is quickly approaching on Tuesday, October 15th. Due to the holiday on October 14th, health forms must be uploaded to Powerschool by 3 pm on Friday, October 11th. The building nurses have sent numerous communications home to those who are currently missing required information or forms.
- Proof of vaccination and a physical exam dated after 8/14/23 is required.
- Please make sure you’ve answered all questions in the parent health history section, signed, and dated it before uploading. Forms are incomplete without this done.
- Students in kindergarten or attending an Illinois school for the first time are required to submit an eye exam from an optometrist/ophthalmologist.
Please review your child’s Forms/Health Office Document Submission section of Powerschool to ensure you’ve uploaded everything needed. If you have not submitted all required forms, please submit your forms ASAP so they can be reviewed by the school nurse and corrected if missing required information before the deadline to prevent exclusion from school. Instructions on uploading forms can be found on the health services website: https://www.d64.org/health-services/
Students not compliant with vaccine/physical exam requirements will be excluded from school beginning October 15th.
Arrival Procedure Reminders
As a reminder, our doors to school open daily at 8:42 a.m. for student arrival. The doors close at the 8:50 a.m. bell. All students outside the building at 8:50 a.m. will need to come to the office to be signed in.

Payments to School - My School Bucks
Park Ridge-Niles CCSD 64 employs My School Bucks as its payment platform for families. Most
purchases for students, including field trips and student orders. Directors can be found here.
Please send a change of clothes with your children for all K-5 students. It is helpful to have a change of clothes in the event of spilled water, accidents, or an unexpected incidents. Clothes should be labeled with your child's name and can be kept in your child's locker. We encourage you to make sure your child's name is on each article of clothing.
For the health and safety of our students and community, no pets are allowed on school property. We realize the beautiful weather increases the amount of families who are walking to and from school. However, we ask that you please leave your dog or cat at home. Properly identified service animals are always permitted.
Please take a moment to review the contacts section of your ParentPortal. Any adult who has approval for after school pick-up or emergency pick-up for illness/injury should be listed. Franklin staff will not release students to adults who are not listed on the ParentPortal.
Drop-off of Student Items/Lunches
If your student forgets something at home, an adult may drop off items at the Franklin front office. Our front office staff will message the classroom for your student to pick up these items during a break in student instruction. The teacher will send the student to the office when it works best in the classroom schedule.
Visiting Franklin
All visitors to Franklin must have a valid state ID or driver’s license. Identification is entered into the Raptor identification system. This process only takes a short time to complete. Once you have clearance, the office staff will print a visitor pass for you and attach it to a lanyard you must wear throughout the building. The office will hold your ID until you return to the office and return the lanyard. We appreciate your support as we proceed with this district-mandated safety procedure for the safety of our students.
Student-Parent Handbook
Franklin Elementary School and all District 64 schools follow policies and practices reviewed and implemented by the District 64 Board of Education. Please review the D64 Student-Parent Handbook before the start of the school year.

Winter Coat Drive
Kindergarten Daisy Troop 47924 at Franklin is organizing a Winter Coat and Winter Essentials Drive. Between October 7th and November 1st, you can drop off new (or very slightly used) winter coats and/or new hats, gloves, and scarves to the designated bins in the Kindergarten Hallway and at the Main Entrance at Franklin. All donated coats and winter essentials will go to those in need in our community and the Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana area.
This is a great opportunity to not only earn an AOK for Raise Craze, but also to help people in need as we start to approach the cold winter season.
**New with tags coats are strongly preferred; however any lightly used coats will also be accepted and go to those in need this season.
