Happy Holidays!
We are quickly coming into the holiday season of the year. This is a time of fun, festivities, and great cheer with family and friends. On behalf of the entire school district, I would like to wish everyone a happy holiday season that is filled with hope and joy at home and in our schools.
One of our areas of focus as a district is to cultivate a sense of belonging, connection, and engagement with and among our students across all grade levels. This holiday season is a great opportunity for all to focus holiday cheer and joy on engaging students in activities that deepen their sense of belonging and strengthen their connections with peers. Happy Holidays!
You Can Go to College
College applications for freshman admission to the University of California (UC) and/or the California State University (CSU) for the 2025/26 school year are open now through December 2, 2024. Any high school senior who is on-track to meet the A-G subject requirements is encouraged to apply. If your student is interested in attending a local community college, they can visit the college and career center at their school to obtain more information regarding application processes and timelines. Please reach out to your student’s high school counselor for more information and assistance with the application process.
Career Pathways
The first cohort of the Apprenticeship Readiness Program was a huge success! Families gathered to celebrate the accomplishments of their graduates at the CTE Construction and Welding Facility at Rancho Buena Vista High School. Great food, guest speakers, including Board President Martha Alverado, Board member Cipriano Vargas, and representatives from the San Diego Building Trades Council, as well as some special gifts made for a joyous evening.
Our pre-apprentices completed a 16-week program that included the Multi-Craft Curriculum(MC3,) OSHA-30 certification, Auto-CAD, math refresher, Lift certification, and hands-on skill development. They are now, with our continued support, ready for the next step in their journey to a successful career in the building trades.
If you or a loved one is interested in a career in the construction industry, our next cohort will begin January 8th at Vista Adult School. The application window is open now. For more information and how to apply click here.
Counselor Corner: Keeping the Learning Going During the Holidays
As we enter a time to reflect on being thankful, families can play a crucial role in supporting students’ well-being and academic progress. While this season offers a welcome break, it’s important to maintain a balance between relaxation and academic momentum. Encourage your child to set aside time for light studying or reading, especially if they’re in the middle of important assignments or exams. Many teachers provide resources, such as online tutoring guides or review materials, which can be helpful during this time. Additionally, consider fostering a routine that includes both fun and learning—like educational games, visits to museums, or family discussions around topics they are learning in school.
Be sure to keep communication open with teachers for any extra support or recommendations. For resources, websites like Khan Academy, Quizlet, or your Parent Portal can offer helpful tools for reinforcing what’s been taught in class. Above all, take time to enjoy family activities and create a supportive environment that blends academic growth with gratitude and reflection. Bobier Measure LL Construction Project Update
There continues to be outstanding progress at the Bobier Elementary School Replacement project. To date, demolition has been completed, grading of the soil is underway, and the first underground pipes and utility structures are being constructed. Building A, the largest structure, is starting to take shape with more than half of the underground sanitary sewer and underground electrical piping installed. Additionally, all site sanitary sewer main lines have been installed and the contractor will continue next to install the site storm drain main lines. We have made great progress with our underground utility installations and the contractor continues to work concurrently in building the west end retaining wall. In the next few weeks, the contractor will form and pour the remaining footing for the retaining wall and we can expect building foundations to start for the primary building.
STARS of Excellence and Innovation
