FAFSA Deadline & Workshops
From Mrs. Trevino: As you may remember from my presentation in your Junior English class, Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) is a graduation requirement through HB3.
For students who plan to graduate in May 2025 and/or attend college or career/trade
school between July 1, 2025, and June 30, 2026, you will fill out the 25-26 FAFSA form. It is expected to open by December 1.
Why you should care about FAFSA/TASFA
- Filing the FAFSA is super important because it helps you access federal financial aid like grants, work-study programs, and loans. It may also be tied to scholarship opportunities at certain institutions. Please check each school's scholarship website for more information.
How to get ready for December 1st?
- Create an FSA ID: You and your parent(s) will need an FSA ID to complete the FAFSA. This is your login information. You can create one at studentaid.gov if you don’t already have one.
- Check Deadlines: You can maximize your aid by submitting your FAFSA for next fall by the priority deadline. Currently the Texas priority deadline is February 15.
- Gather Your Documents: Make sure you have your Social Security number, driver’s license, federal income tax returns, W-2s, and other records of money earned.
I will send reminders and more information as we get closer to the opening date of the FAFSA. I highly recommend to start preparing now so you can complete the FAFSA as soon as it’s available. Remember, you need to complete a FAFSA form to receive funding for college; FAFSA is something you will do every year you’re enrolled in college to receive federal student aid.
While the availability of the application and any changes to the process, the WCJC Financial Aid office will only be conducting online presentations throughout the fall 2024 semester. Please see the attached flyer to register for their online Financial Aid presentations.

Texas State First Gen Trip
This week, a group of first-generation college students had the exciting opportunity to tour Texas State University, and it was an experience to remember! From walking the beautiful, hilly campus to tasting some delicious meals at the campus dining hall, every moment was full of inspiration and insight.
We started our visit with a tour of the campus, and even though the hills were a bit of a workout, the views were absolutely worth it! The Texas State campus is not only stunning but also full of history and energy. Our tour guide, a current student, shared fascinating details about the university's academic programs, student organizations, and campus traditions that made them feel even more connected to the college experience.
After working up an appetite, we headed to the dining hall, where we got to try a variety of food options available to students. Whether you're in the mood for a salad, a hearty entrée, or something sweet, the dining hall has plenty to offer. We enjoyed chatting with current students about what life is like on campus and how Texas State offers so much support for students from all backgrounds, especially those who are the first in their families to attend college.
Overall, the visit was an inspiring glimpse into what college life at Texas State University could be like. For many, it was an eye-opening experience that made them feel more confident and excited about the possibilities for their own futures. It was a day full of new friendships, shared experiences, and a renewed sense of motivation to keep pushing toward their educational goals.
