Greenbriar Gazette 8/30/24
Volume 34 Issue 2 | August 30, 2024
Principal's Message
Dear Greenbriar Families,
We had an awesome first full week of school at Greenbriar! Students have settled a bit more into their routines and are continuing to build community in their classrooms. Our students were very sweet to our facility dog, Krieger, on his 5th birthday yesterday. He's certainly a well-loved pup!
As a reminder, today is a half day of student attendance with a 12:00 dismissal. We will follow our normal dismissal procedures today but please be sure to let your child's teacher know if there's a change in routine. There's no school on Monday in observance of Labor Day. We look forward to seeing everyone back on Tuesday for another great week including picture day and our first PTO pizza day next Friday!
Enjoy the long weekend!
Warmly,
Ginny

Picture Day on September 6th
Greenbriar's school picture day will take place on Friday, September 6th. Students will take individual and classroom photos during the day. Please see the attachment below with more details about the Picture Day process.
New Storywalk Book
We're excited to have a new book in the Greenbriar Storywalk which starts by the front doors and wraps around the Greenbriar property to the back playground. The new story is called The Buddy Bench by Patty Brozo. It will be in the Storywalk for the next week or so and then the Northbrook Public Library will be added a new story. We encourage families to visit the storywalk often this year before or after school hours or on weekends!

'Anxious Generation' Community Conversation
WHAT: Community Conversation and Call to Action
WHEN: 7 p.m.Monday, Sept. 30
WHERE: United Methodist Church, 1190 Western Ave., Northbrook
Join us as CATCH leads a Community Conversation and Call to Action about our kids' mental health! There is lots of buzz about Jonathan Haidt's book, "The Anxious Generation," which brings the youth mental health crisis to the forefront. Haidt talks about smartphones, social media, and over-parenting, and he outlines very reasonable steps that we can take to create real change for our kids. We will talk, share our concerns, and discuss actionable next steps to reverse this youth mental health crisis. None of us can do this alone, but we CAN do this together.
