Principal's Corner
Dear Southfield A&T Parents,
As we bid farewell to the vibrant month of September, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude for your active participation and unwavering support during our homecoming festivities. The performances by our talented young adults in the band, cheerleading squad, and student athletes truly showcased the spirit and excellence of our school community. Your engagement and enthusiasm have set the bar high for what it means to be a part of an exemplary learning community in Oakland County.
As we step into the month of October, it is time for us to transition into our first standardized testing window. These exams play a crucial role in helping us gauge the levels of support needed for our students and prepare them for the upcoming spring state exams. At Southfield A&T, we firmly believe that growth is the key to our success, and we are committed to providing our students with the tools and resources they need to excel academically.
We are excited to invite you to our upcoming Parent-Teacher Conference on October 15th. This is a valuable opportunity for us to connect, discuss your child's progress, and collaborate on ways to support their academic journey.
We hope you enjoy the information provided in this newsletter and look forward to staying engaged with you throughout the school year. Have a wonderful weekend, and as always, go Warriors!
Warm regards,
David Reese

Leaders in Action #2 - written by Paris Whitman
Kicking Off the Year with Clubs and Organizations
As the year begins at Southfield A&T, our clubs and organizations have started with huge goals and aspirations. From fundraising plans to community service projects, every group is committed to having a year full of triumphs. Students are becoming leaders by working together to create a positive school environment. Here’s a glimpse of what our clubs and organizations have in store for us all!
Student Councils goal is to help students take on leadership roles and become active participants in both our school and community. Andrew Green (Advisor), is excited about us working with elementary students, as we inspire the younger generation. For those unfamiliar with Student Council, the purpose is to harbor hardworking groups of young leaders dedicated to enhancing school spirit and making a difference.
National Honor Society (NHS) aims to recruit more members and continue to play a major role in school events. We want to be a governing group that helps make decisions and contribute to school functions. There are many exciting activities planned, including the prom dress and suit giveaway. We also plan to attend the Michigan Youth and Government Conference, having Student vs. Staff sports games, and participate in special initiatives. NHS isn’t just about high-achieving students—it’s about encouraging success and leadership in all students.
Senior Class Board has a new class sponsor (Mrs. Tucker) who will ensure the class of 2024 reaches all of its goals. She hopes that seniors will remember the positive lessons learned and the preparation for success beyond high school. As Eric, the Senior Class Board president, says: “Seniors, check your email!”
Junior Class Board is focused on completing fundraising efforts and making plans for senior year. Our goal is to ensure a positive legacy is left. Mrs. Crosby, the Junior Class Board sponsor has noted: “We have a wonderful group of students on board, and I’m excited about all the activities we're going to do together.” As for everyone else, the juniors hope you’ll support the class as they work towards their goals!
We are excited to announce the return of the C2 Pipeline at Southfield A&T! The program officially kicked off on September 16th, welcoming new and returning students. C2 Pipeline, hosted by Wayne State University, offers 2.5 hours of engaging, in-person after-school programming designed to help students develop teamwork, leadership skills, and academic abilities. This year, they introduced Site Coordinators, Mr. Robert Alexander-Jordan, Ms. Tracey Spencer, and Southfield’s very own Ms. Mariah Holmes, who will ensure that C2 Pipeline provides an enhancing and fun experience for all participants.
Students can also access virtual homework help and tutoring through the C2 Pipeline Math and Science Hotline, which will start October 9th. This support, alongside hands-on activities, college readiness, and STEM-focused learning, aims to prepare students for success in their academics and a world-class workforce. They are looking forward to an exciting and productive year with the C2 Pipeline program!
Mental Health Services
Any Oakland County family with a school-age student can access up to $4,000 in reimbursement for mental health services. Previously, the reimbursement was capped at $2,000. This is available to families regardless of family income.
