Mrs. Michels Weekly Updates
Let's make it a great week!
Weekly Updates and Reminders 3/31-4/11
Hello Hamilton Families!
Happy Spring! I hope everyone enjoyed the week off and are ready for the last 10 weeks of school! We have a lot to still do before June so let's work together to make these last 10 weeks a success! This time of year can get very hectic with state testing, end of unit testing, field trips, sports etc! The way you can help from home is to make sure your child stays on a consistent schedule and gets plenty of rest each night. Arriving at school on time and well rested is the best way to make it a successful day!
Entering assigned doors:
As you have likely noticed, with the warmer weather we have been directing students to walk around to their assigned door for arrival. Students enter the front door if they are a safety, have a prearranged plan with me or if it is after 8:25. All other students enter their assigned door. This is done so we know where students are at all times and their teachers know where to expect them. Often when students who are not safeties enter the front door we find them wandering around the building and not in their assigned area. We have staff assigned to the doors and line up areas to monitor students and that is where we need the students to be. Please drop your child off by 8:15 so they have enough time to walk to their class line up and be ready to enter the classroom at 8:25. Students must be in class by 8:30 or they receive a tardy. When your child is on time for school this allows them the appropriate amount of time to get them selves ready for a great day of learning.
Parking Lot safety
Please remember with drop off that if you are pulling to the front of the school to drop off you must pull all the way into the yellow striped area before letting your child out of the car. Children need to be let out at the curb so they are not walking in front of cars. If you attempt to let your child out in the middle lane you will be asked to move to the curb or pull into a parking spot. Please do not park your vehicle in such a way that it blocks the flow of traffic. For the safety of all students, parents and staff we need everyone to follow these procedures.
Thank you in advance for your support and cooperation.
Book Fair:
This week PTA is hosting the book fair. Your child will have an opportunity to shop with their class on the day their teacher signed up to shop. We are still looking for volunteers to help students at the book fair. If you are available Wednesday, Thursday or Friday from 9-11:30 please reach out to Stephanie Devlin at 734-812-1806
Boys Activity Night
Friday April 11th from 6-8pm we will have our annual Boys Activity Night! This is a boys only event, girls will have their girls only dance on May 30th. All boys must have an adult with them at the event, this is not a drop off event. We will have a variety of free games and activities for all ages and interests! We will also provide hot dogs, chips and a drink. Please make sure to return your slip so we can plan to have enough food and supplies to make it a fun night for all who attend!
PBIS Corner
This week we wrap up our Be an Upstander- See Something- Say Something behavior focus and move to our next focus which is "Using kind words and language". We will focus on helping students to solve problems and conflicts without being mean and hurtful. We will work to teach students how to choose their word and language carefully with speaking with others. Part of our STAR behavior is to respect others and that includes how we talk to each other. Watch your child's Dojo points to see if they are earning spotlight behavior points by showing this behavior. Below are two video links to watch with your child at home to help extend this learning at home.

Transportation
We are having some issues with behavior on the bus. Please talk to your student and remind them of the expected behavior on the bus. Please keep in mind that the bus is a privilege and if your child is loses his/her privilege of using the bus they are still required to attend school. Being safe on the bus is critical and the expectation for all students who ride the bus. Students who do not follow the bus expectations will have consequences and if the behavior is repeated they could be removed from the bus.
The district has an app called Here Comes the Bus. This wonderful free app allows you to track exactly where you child's bus is at all times.
