COMPASS FALL SPIRIT WEEK - THIS WEEK!

STANDARDIZED TESTING (PSAT/NMSQT & ACT/PRE-ACT) - COMPASS-SPECIFIC INFORMATION
District 303 high school juniors will take the National Merit Scholar Qualifying Test (NMSQT/PSAT) during the week of October 15th. At Compass Academy, all juniors will take this test the morning of Thursday, October 17th. They will then continue with their regularly scheduled classes for the rest of the day. All other students will have a regular school day that day. More information about testing will be emailed to students and parents next week.
Because the standardized test required in Illinois for all students in grades 9-11 has shifted to the ACT, District 303 will utilize Horizon Education to administer digital, adaptive Pre-ACT/ACT college readiness benchmark assessments during the week of October 21st. The testing day for all students in grades 9-11, and those seniors who have not taken the SAT, will be Thursday, October 24th. Seniors will not have scheduled classes on 10/24, but will instead have a choice of post-secondary planning and exploration activities to engage in on that day. More information about this will be emailed to students and parents soon.

ATTENDANCE CALLS
To report a student absence, please call the Haines Center main line at (331)228-3400 and follow the menu options for Compass Academy. If a student who attends classes at both their home high school and Compass will need to miss a full day of school, parents must either inform East or North that their student is also a Compass student so that the Compass office is informed of the absence or they must call Compass Academy directly to report their students' absence. If parents make just one call to Compass to report a full day absence for part-time students, the Compass Academy administrative assistant, Ms. Chavira, will ensure communication between buildings.

THIS WEEK'S GLIMPSE AROUND CAMPUS
Students in the Accident Reconstruction (Physics) seminar investigated a simulated crash scene based on a scenario presented by a St. Charles Police officer who visited class. They used drones, various measurement tools, and observation to capture details, measure angles and distances, and gather all observable evidence in preparation for writing accident reconstruction reports.
Students in the Coffee & Chocolate seminar tempered chocolate to fill custom molds made for them by students in the CAD Drafting seminar.
Several students in the Crime & Deviance sociology seminar interviewed community experts on their topics, students in the Controversial Authors seminar met with a librarian at the St. Charles Public Library to discuss the American Library Association's code of ethics and how controversies surrounding authors impact how they choose books, and Compass seniors Kiera Mennerick and Lucinda Connelly were among eight D303 students who participated in Senator DeWitte's Youth Advisory Council at Judson University.

KICK-A-THON FUNDRAISER
KICK-A-THON is a local event that began over 30 years ago as an effort from the St. Charles High School Dance Team to raise money to help kick cancer. It has grown to include East and North High School Dance Teams and other amazing charities. This charity event will benefit the Fox Valley Food for Health, Colette A. Miles Foundation, and the high school dance teams. To date, we have raised over a million dollars and need your help to keep that number growing. Please join the St. Charles High School Dance Teams as we raise money to kick cancer.
This year’s event will take place on Friday, October 4th, 2024, at St. Charles North High School, prior to the start of the varsity football game between St. Charles North and St. Charles East. Local community members who help with fundraising will form a kick line alongside the dance team members and kick 100 times in an effort to raise money for these charities.
Link to donate and support! See you there!
