A Message From the Mountain

Dear Blackhawk Families,

We are halfway through 3rd quarter already! This year is flying by. We are about to head into "testing season" as we approach the state testing period. Please see below for detailed dates of testing.

Our PTO's annual Family Dance was held last Friday. It was a hit! We had a great turnout with many families joining in on the fun. Our DJ rocked the night away while students danced, sang, and partied with their friends.

There will be 6th-8th grade boys and girls basketball tryouts, as well as 6th-8th grade cheer tryouts coming up. The dates are February 18th-20th and the 24th. Please email Coach Booth for more information at dan.booth@dvusd.org. We can't wait to see our amazing middle school athletes compete this season!

The Parent and Community Satisfaction Survey is now open for responses! Please take a moment to share your feedback about DMS! We look forward to celebrating our successes and identifying areas for growth. The survey can be filled out here.

"It's a great day to be a Blackhawk!"

Our February Blackhawk Bonanza was all about the Hawk Code trait of integrity. Integrity means doing the right thing, even when you don't think anyone is watching. During our assembly, students from each grade level collaborated to answer integrity trivia questions. We also had two of our teachers competing in challenges while wearing their inflatable costumes and showing integrity through their sportsmanship and fairness. This was so much fun to watch and the kids loved it! To wrap up the assembly, students shouted, "Blackhawk Strong!" to show their school spirit. The winning grade level for our school spirit chant was 2nd Grade! Way to go!

Please try to ensure students will be present at school each of these days. If they leave early while they are still testing, their test has to be submitted as partially complete and the students will be unable to make up the remaining portion.

Our PTO's annual Family Dance was a hit! Students had a great time with friends and families donated "cold and flu season supplies" to our classrooms. Thank you for the generous donations. Our classroom teachers surely appreciate it!

Purchase your yearbook using the information above! Don't miss out on the early bird deal. Also, 8th grade families can purchase an ad for their student to honor their last year in middle school!

Spring Break runs from March 17th-March 21st. There will be no school during this time as students enjoy time with their families! We can't wait to hear all about the fun trips, events, and activities students will participate in during their time off!
