Lions Park Paw Prints
Letter from the Principal
Dear Lions Park Families,
Thanks to our PTO for kicking off our week with creative crafts and activities at our Valentine's Day parties! Special thanks to Laura Hollis for coordinating our room parent volunteers. Our students and staff enjoyed the parties. It was fun to see all interacting and socializing.
Over the past two weeks our grade level teams have had conversations about our winter data. As part of this process, we looked at achievement and growth for our students. We look at the overall data to evaluate progress toward goals set at fall data days. We also look at the performance of individual students and identify those who need additional support or would benefit from greater challenge.
It was nice to have weather of fifty degrees this week. While the snow and cold are back, we are looking forward to warmer weather to come! This warmer weather will enable our students to regularly be back outside at recess. This time of year is tough because the variation in temperatures results in ice, mud and puddles in the park and along the walk to the park at recess. It is recommended that students wear boots, either rain boots or snow boots, each day until things dry out and the ice melts. Please join us in encouraging your child to pay attention and try to avoid these muddy and icy areas. It may also be a good idea to send dry socks and pants in your child's backpack because we know it can be difficult to always avoid these areas while playing.
As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.
Warmly,
Katie Kelly

PEPS
District 57 is proud to announce that D57 PEPS (Partnering with Educators and Parents to Support student needs) will host an in-person and on-demand screening of a powerful new documentary called "Angst: Raising Awareness Around Anxiety." All families are invited to attend the screening of this 56-minute film, which is appropriate for ages 10+, at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 24, in the Lincoln LRC. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion led by D57 social workers and psychologists. The film will also be available virtually starting at 6:30 on Feb. 24; it can be viewed through March 3 -- we will send a link to register the week of the screening.
"Angst" is intended to start a conversation around the growing problem of anxiety. It features world champion swimmer Michael Phelps, experts in the field and regular teens, who come together to explore the academic and social stress and pandemic fears and uncertainty that have increased mental health challenges among young people. The film breaks down what is currently going on and what young people can do to help themselves and others. It includes candid interviews and provides tips, tricks, strategies and resources to help reset thinking patterns, push back against anxiety and support others.
