September 2024
As we step into the 2024-2025 school year, I'm filled with excitement for the journey ahead. This year promises to be one where our classrooms are not just spaces for learning, but hubs of energy, collaboration, and growth. I can't wait to see our hallways come alive again with your laughter, smiles, and conversations.
I feel incredibly fortunate to serve as your principal and am eager to work together to make YME the very best it can be. Let's commit to growing, supporting, and inspiring one another as a community. I look forward to seeing you all in the hallways!

Open House
Join us TONIGHT, Wednesday August 28th, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm for Back to School Open House. This will be a great opportunity to touch base with district staff to ensure you have what you need for a successful school year. Feel free to bring in your locker contents, school supplies, and musical instruments, as well as the completed 1-to-1 Chromebook forms & payment (MS/HS students) if still needed.
The FFA will be hosting their annual fundraiser in the MS/HS cafeteria. The menu this year is roast beef sandwiches, chips, cookie and juice for $5.
Food Service Updates
The Food Service department will be on-site outside of the cafeteria during open house. Stop by and make sure your child's finger scan works. These scans are used in place of lunch cards. You can also drop off your completed Application for Educational benefits or any lunch payments.
The Food Service staff has implemented a new menu program over the summer and we are thrilled to bring you those changes!
Lunch Menus
NEW THIS YEAR! We will be using a new menu system for the 24-25 school year.
Check out the short video on how to use the site HERE.
Click HERE to view the menus on a desktop,.
Cell Phone Apps: Go to your App Store (iPhone) or Play Store (Android) and download the FREE My School Menus app. Search for Yellow Medicine East School District. **You will NOT be able to view the menu until they are finalized on FRIDAY, August 30th. This means when you try to click "Which menu would you like to view?" there will be nothing there to choose. This will change after the menu is finalized and published on Friday! Check out the short video on how to use the app HERE.
***PLEASE NOTE: A la Carte will not be starting until Monday, September 9th.
We are extremely excited about this program and cannot wait for you to check it out!
Application for Educational Benefits
If you haven't done so already, please log on to your JMC Parent Portal and complete the 2024-2025 Application for Educational Benefits, in JMC it is called "Meals Application" and the link is on the left menu. We strongly encourage ALL families to complete this form annually. Your child(ren) may qualify for other benefits, including free or reduced lunch & other school fees. Your applications also help the school qualify for education funds, discounts, and other meal programs. A paper copy was mailed out to each family in the district a few weeks ago. Paper copies can be dropped off in the MS/HS office. The information that you provide is kept confidential and is only reviewed by the Food Service Director.
Lunch Period Changes
One Lunch!
One change this year, the MS/HS will only have one lunch period for all 6th-12th grade students. Middle school students (grades 6-8) will go through the line first, followed by high school students (grades 9-12). Open lunch will remain an option for students in grades 10-12.
*The first day of school, students will have their lunch from 12:02pm to 12:35pm following the 2 Hour Late schedule.
Chromebooks
All students in grades 6-12 will be issued a Chromebook. Insurance on the device is $10 per student. You can complete the Chromebook Agreement form electronically HERE. Electronic payments are preferred, but cash/check will be accepted in the MS/HS office. You can make your payment online through the Sting Store HERE. Once forms and payments are completed, stop into the MS/HS and pick up your "Golden Ticket," and you will be instructed to the device pick-up location. Students WILL also have the opportunity to pick up their devices on the first day of school.
